Title: Ruger LCR
Post by: Dino on December 06, 2009, 12:07:07 PM
How to get a new gun for Christmas?  Buy your wife one just before.

Just bought Kathy the new Ruger Light Weight Revolver.  She has her CC and does not like autos for carry.

She loves the gun and the Crimson Trace grips I put on it.  I also ordered a XS big dot front sight that should be available in a few more weeks.

Nice carry gun for her, I like the trigger and the fact it can shoot +Ps and it is very light.

My wife prefers Revolvers as well.  She carrys a crimson Trace S&W J-Frame.  It is small and Lightweight as well. Also does plus P's.  I Like that little ruger LCR. Nice engineering. How does it shoot? Been to the range yet with it?

Dino.  Definitely, a nice gun.  Jeane, on the other hand, prefers automatics.  Buying her a Desert Eagle, .50 Caliber, Gold, with Tiger stripes, for Christmas.    ;D    ;D

I may have to trade her the .380!   ;)    ;)

Cheif have not shot it yet, dry fire is ok whit the LCR and she did some when I put on the CT's. She will not carry it until she has some range time with it.  She also has a S&W J frame that she is passing onto our new daughter in law.

Will report after the range time.

Kjtrains, my wife was a sheriff deputy for 10 years before children, she will shoot anything and likes the range time.
But her first gun issued to her was a revolver and she will now only carry a revolver. She shoots all my autos well, except for my R9s, go figure.

Dino.  It's all in what one is used to and comfortable with.  I can certainly understand that.

Dino:

Just in case you haven't seen it yet, John Connor has written a review of the Ruger LCR in his "Guncrank Diaries" column for the January/February 2010 edition of AMERICAN HANDGUNNER. The operative word in his conclusion about the LCR was "superb." Since Connor doesn't often bestow such accolades, I would say that you have given your wife one fine revolver indeed.

Wife and I shot her new LCR yesterday, recoil was light compared to her J-frame.  The trigger was a  long pull but very even with no stacking and no creep at all.
I put on a XS big dot front sight and it was a nice addition to the functon and looks of the gun.

Opened a present on Christmas to fine my first cowboy gun, a Ruger Blackhawk 45LC/45ACP convertable.  Did not have any 45LC's in my ammo chest but as I reload 45ACP's no shortage there.  The gun was fun to shoot and very tame, front sight is black so is the rear, after the shooting session, cleaned and painted the front sight face red.  Much better.

Dino.  Congratulations on the Ruger Blackhawk cowboy.  I have the Super Blackhawk in the 44 mag.  I do like it, but it is not tame.

Thanks kj, I have had a Super Redhawk with a scope fitted for a few years now and love the gun.  Looking forward to shooting this new Ruger as I never shot a 45 LC.

I shoot the .45 LC in the Ruger Alaskan;  haven't tried it in the Taurus Judge yet.  As for the Blackhawk .45 LC, you will like it.

Dino.  Have you had a chance to shoot the .45 LC yet?  I can't find LC's anywhere.  Good you have ordered the dies.

Not yet kj Gander Mountain had some cowboy loads by mail order but did not try to order them yet as a gun show is comming to town at the end of the month.
If I find any good deals I'll let you know.  I have to shoot some before I can reload.

Just wondered.  Since it's light weight, this may not be comfortable to shoot for some, though, for others it might not matter. The grips may help in that respect.

As noted on some blogs a .9mm LCR in +P or non +P would be great.

The +P in the LCR is a little painful, had my wife shot 38's at first then told her to try the +P's as that is what was going to be in it when she carried it.

She managed but was not smiling when done with the 5 shots.  357? don't see much need with todays ammo.

Dino.  My thoughts exactly.  I have shot a .38 lightweight before, but not +P's.  It just seems like the .357 is too much for a lightweight.

Just my nickel.

Your nickel gets a dial tone.

Agree, that being said my wife loves carring the LCR, it fits right into her side pocket of her pocketbook and she loves the light weight.  I love the price.

Kj,
What I meant by that is I wholeheartedly agree with you; you made a good connection and valid statement.
