All this talk on 1911s,I had to get one, just ordered a Colt blued LtWt XSE Govt model..
Not an Ed Brown either but a start.. ;)
My first .45 SA gun, figured it was time!!
JHatmaker, wish I had someone close to me to tweak a .45,I envy you!!
Way to go, Brenden!
I'm personally partial to Colts, if only for sentimental reasons. The first time I ever shot a 1911 was a Colt assigned to me for training years ago by a benevolent U. S. Army. It was the proverbial "love at first shot."
And speaking of tweaking a Colt, here is one example of a "Plain Jane" Colt Government model for which I first installed Sambar Stag grips and then the results after I had decided to let Clark Custom Guns and APW take it all the way:

Some very nice looking guns guys, but to me even an old Army beater is beautiful, as long as it's a 1911.

I agree. Just take a look at this photograph from LIFE Magazine, circa 1938. And the pistol was said to have been 20 years old at the time.
