A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but this puts it into perspective.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A billion seconds ago, it was 1959.
A billion minutes ago, Jesus walked the earth.
A billion hours ago, our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
A billion dollars ago, it was only 8 hours and 20 minutes ago at the rate Washington spends it.
I use to be a UNIX programmer/developer and we measure everything in SECONDS from the birth of UNIX which was January 1, 1970 and I can tell you that starting on that date, we reached the one billion mark in 2001. Without doing the math, a billion seconds is around 31+ years.
So a billion seconds ago wasn't 1959. Instead, it was about 1973 (give or take a year).
Sorry, but we UNIX people can be a bit nerdy when it comes to these kinds of details. ::)
