Title: My Letter to the Editor
Post by: DDGator on October 05, 2006, 12:57:23 PM
I though you guys might find this interesting...

My letter to the editor of the St. Pete Times was published today:

http://www.sptimes.com/2006/10/05/Opinion/Shackles_make_good_se.shtml

It was in response to this editorial piece from yesterday:

http://www.sptimes.com/2006/10/04/Opinion/The_human_costs_of_a_.shtml

The Editorial was making the point that tougher gun laws won't prevent school shootings, but we should pass them anyway.  Huh?

Duane:

Thank you for that reasoned and persuasive response to the editorial.

An armored car guard is the only non-law-enforcement private citizen who can carry his gun freely across state lines while on duty, to protect the money in the car.

A teacher is not allowed to carry a gun in her own classroom to protect the children in her care.

What does this say about us?

It might be said to indicate that our society values its money more than it does its children.

Does anyone else find it tragically ironic that so many of these egregious atrocities committed by criminal predators in recent years have taken place in so-called "gun-free" zones?

Good point that demonstrates cowardice and self justification
at its lowest ebb. Cowards do not gravitate towards strength.

And one more thing that this low life, scumbag loser did not
count on was the courage of the two older girls who begged
to be killed before the others so that they might possibly be
spared from the fodder of his miserable life.

That quote Duane in particular shows the nievity of so many - which presumes that guns could be wiped off the board at all levels - forgetting that the bad guys will always - yes always find access to them.

Beyond that yes, you make the valid point too re the tool user compared with the tool itself.

Good job. :)
