Title: Homemade Holster
Post by: kanuist on April 23, 2009, 02:43:35 PM
I was finishing up my new belt when I decided to buy a R9.  I’d made western holsters before and decided to try my hand at a molded holster for the R9.

I need to redo the kydex clip, as it doesn’t fit the belt as well as I’d like.  Anyone know where I can get darker brown kydex?  This color is called coyote brown and I got it from knifekits.

Thanks Corey.

I was very please at how well it turned out.   Wished I had used a better piece of leather.  The one I used was a bit scratched up and old.

I'll live with it for a while and see how it works.  Perhaps make another one if I feel this one needs some modifications.

This was also my first time working with Kydex.  I found it very easy.  I used a piece of wood that I thought was the same dimensions as my belt to bend it around.  Later I found out that the wood was a bit wider than my belt.

I wonder if I could use a brown sharpie marker to darken the kydex.  I still haven't been able to find a darker brown, except if full sheets that are 96" long.

The belt was a lot of fun to make too.  It is two layers of leather for stiffness.

Found a source for "Chocolate" brown kydex!

Knifekits say they will have that color in stock in a week or two.
