Title: Forum Fundraiser Auction -- Official Thread
Post by: DDGator on June 05, 2010, 12:37:44 AM
Hey gang,

Here is the latest forum fundraiser -- donated by Dino.

The auction is for two items:

1. An R-9 presentation box fashioned from a cigar box.  Cutouts for your pistol, a magazine, 6 rounds, and a Rohrbaugh knife.  (Contents shown in photo NOT included -- just the box).

2.  A set of Carbon Fiber R-9 grips made by Curt.  These are not factory grips, but are an early set of Curt's replica grips.  They are not perfect, and show the fibers in some locations, but have been used on Dino's gun with no problems.

The winning bid will receive both items described above, and they will ship to you directly from Dino.

I haven't seen these items in person, but I think the Cigar Box presentation case is a cool idea.  Not like Enigma's high end boxes--but cool all the same.

Rules:  This is an auction. Starting bid is $25 and bids must be made in a minimum of $5 increments.  Bids must be made on this thread.  The higest bidder when the auction closes is the winner.  Cut-off is 10pm on Sunday, June 6, at 10pm "forum time" -- which is Eastern DST.  Payment can be made by PayPal, GunPal, or by check in the mail.  Proceeds will go to me to defray forum expenses and such.

Thanks to Dino for the donation.  Thanks to those who will bid.  I know these things usually go for more than they are "worth" to support the forum -- and I appreciate that too.

Thanks to all -- and happy bidding!

Duane (DDGator)

Thanks, Brenden.  I do think Cigars and R-9s go well together...   ;)

And yes -- you will need the knife for sure!

Thanks Brenden, I was going to ask Richard what type of wood he thinks the box is made out of?

I think it looks like that exotic rare Walberrynutfir?

I would like add the hooked mag extension in the top pictire of the box to the auction.  It is one of John's-yankee2500.

When I used to smoke cigars,it seems like in a life far away now,the Wavel and the Churchill were my favorite sizes!!
I liked a bit stronger cigar than the Ashton, but it was a fine morning cigar..

My guess on the wood would be Dominican Plywood!! ;)

Brenden is DA MAN, all right!

I'm about to take delivery of one of Enigma's presentation boxes or I would have been in at the start of this auction. However, being inspired by Corey's splendid example, I'll also be tossing $75.00 into the bucket just as a donation for a GREAT cause.

And thanks to Dino for donating such a fine piece for auction!

[By the way, Dino, I think that wood may well be the extremely rare "Spalted Amazonian Walberrynutfir."   ;)]

You guys are great!

Brenden, as I said in the above text I am adding the hooked mag extension and now I would like to add another set of carbon fiber grips that Curt sold me after he perfected them.

Richard, I'm sorry to say but I think Brenden is right about the wood, it might very well be "Dominican Plywood", however this plywood it thongue and groved!

I am looking forward to seeing what you have come up with for your box!

Corey:

You know me -- I'll be certain to post some photographs shortly after the presentation box arrives. It should be a real beauty.  8)

And Duane:

Thank you for your kind remarks and thank you particularly for the superb work you have done in creating and regulating this Forum in such a way that it has become what I believe to be the finest and most civil gun forum on the Internet.  Meanwhile, I'll be getting a USPS Money Order to you by Priority Mail in the next day or two when I can get to the Post Office.

I will contact Duane on putting up one of the "1 of 10" boxes for a "donational" type auction. Once the first run is complete I will put it into the second run. I will "term" it "The Last Stand" box 10 of 10. I was going to reserve the number for myself but I will pick another number. it will be made of solid Padouk. A red colored wood.

Brenden, Thank you for being such a sport.  I thought the box would be a way to get more members doing something for the Forum and you really steped up to the plate with your, "unseen" bid!

Thanks to the other members who piched in $75 each for the cause.

You guys are great!
