I've found that given my small hands and fingers, that a thumb push-off (versus finger) works best for me-at least with the R9-see below. In the LE version of this holster that RJ made for me he raised the holster, which raised the push off leather band and he also made it a bit thicker for me-kind off like widening the safety on a 1911.

I do that with some holster, some I push off with my middle finger on the draw. Another technique, of course, is to draw up and slightly to the rear so that the holster catches on the pocket edge and is ripped off.
Any of these methods will work, so long as you don't have too much retention in the holster -- you don't need much for a pocket holster.

Light retention is a must. I prefer the thumb push off, as the thumb is stronger, at least in my experience.

The one situation where I would not recommend a thumb-push off is if you are carrying a gun with an exposed hammer--like a Chief's special. Conventional wisdom says that the thumb should cover the hammer on the draw to prevent a snag -- so some other method has to be used to ensure the gun is stripped of the holster properly.

Yep - good point re hammer Duane.
But certainly with the pup - thumb for me too, as well as ''the twist'' - both used together guarantee success out of my K&D.

Say, R9S, care to elaborate? I'm expecting my K&D pocket holster for the pup in a couple of weeks here, and any pointers you have would be most welcome.

Seven - hmmm well - not that easy really without pics and can't think of any pics that would show much more than the one we have already on RTW's post.
You will probably find that when new the rig will feel very stiff and possibly tight too - mine did shrink a shade finally perhaps because not bone dry when I got it - meaning say 98% which became 100%! Not unusual.
Place gun in it and leave to sit, and even (my idea only) place a layer or two of polythene inside then place gun - just to get a slight easing. Even carry in pocket at home a bit too before ''real'' carry out and about - body warmth seems to help thinks supple up a bit.
Once gun is freely removeable, really best thing IMO, with an empty gun, is experiment. The double width leather at top is what will allow the thumb a purchase to press on - add to that a slight rocking to rear as gun moves out - and it should come out fine. The rig's shape does help make it ''catch'' in pocket but needless to say - pocket dimensions etc will have an effect too.
Try it when you get it - play around - then see how you go.

Thanks for the suggestions, indeed. I'm used to working with fine leathers (I'm a book conservator - so nothing of this thickness), and have some tricks I can try if I have any problems. Will definitely work it a bit at home prior to depending on it 'out in the real world'.

I like to use the "middle finger" push.. ;D
It is what I have used since starting pocket carry..
Works for me very well.. 8)
