The just-arrived issue of American Rifleman (February 2010) compares nine 380s. Interestingly, the R380 seems to be the only one that didn't hiccup during the tests. Many of the other earned harsh comments about lots of break-in being required, or about sensitivity to different ammo brands.
Hmmm.
Well, I can be proud even though I own an R9.

Received my copy today. I did glance at the article. I like both, the .380 and the R9, however, just been looking at my .380 due to ammo shortage.
John did post Midway now had some in stock. :)

I find the Ammo Engine site a useful resource these days. There are several online stores that have .380 in stock:

It certainly ain't cheap.

Ron. Thanks for the link. I did check Midway and their price for .380 Gold Dots, 90 gr., jhp, is $17.99 for a box of 20.

I've been buying at ammotogo.com. They have .380 gold dots LE at $39.95 per 50 rd box,500 rds for $394.95. As I said it's law enforcement ammo but I've been given to understand that it's the same stuff just in 50 rd boxes. Just a heads up. Gene

Gene. Thanks. I did see that and have wondered if there was a difference in the LE vs. not LE; about .10 a rd difference in price, LE being cheaper. I do have two boxes of none LE, at 20 rds. per box, I'm just holding on to. Bought before the shortage.

The Brothers R should be very busy after SHOT 2010 as a result of this article. For all the "bad" on the R9 that people want to believe (obviously false internet rumors), this article on the 380 and the last few magazine reviews on the R9 should put that to rest.

I purchased a Taurus PT738 and have had several FTF problems. I contacted Taurus and they are sending new magazines. I read the article in American Rifleman and was very impressed by the review. A lot of money for a 380, but I am looking for a dependable CED. Looks like I might have to put a crowbar in my pocket if I want dependability.

GunnerD. Welcome to the Forum. I'll have to defer to others on the .380 as I haven't fired mine yet. I really like my R9s and have had it for nearly a year now with no problems. Again, welcome.
Here's some comments others have said about the .380.
