Well, since my trying since May to get one, I finally have it!
When I took delivery today (the first day my sheriff's office and county judge thought I should enjoy my second amendment right) I removed the little beauty from its box and caused quite a stir in the gun shop. Not one of those customers had even heard of Rohrbaugh... they can't say that now. Two of the steadies took down contact info.
I disassembled it, cleaned it to my specs, and will fire a couple of magazines of 124 GD tomorrow. I'd have done that today except we had way too much going on with the guests, etc.
I need to once more thank good member chameleon for his assistance. Those little beauties do not grow on trees around here.
It's been a lo-o-o-ong trip and I have seen first hand what a runaway judicial officer can do to foul up two weeks of a solid citizen's life. ::)

Skyhook:
Congratulations on cutting through the red tape. And may the Good Lord save us all from self-serving bureaucrats and runaway judicial officers. (They should all be required to read the United States Constitution -- particularly the First and Second Amendments -- at least once each month.)
Enjoy your new masterpiece, and let us hear about your first range session.

Skyhook,
Congratulations on receiving your new pistol.
I know you will enjoy it. Have fun and be safe.

Skyhook, it sounds like you live in one of those Northeast gun unfriendly states.
Good Luck with your new pistol.

Ever notice the folks that do not want you to have guns are the same ones that do not want to punish the criminals?
-
Congratulations Skyhook, it is about time.
Even as we get older, it is just as difficult to wait for something as you did when a child.
Please ensure that you do follow the proper lube instructions.
I did not claen mine before putting seventy rounds through it. I read here that is was test fired at the factory, disassembled, cleaned and lubed. It looked cleaned and lubed when I recieved it.
Yes, that goes against our way of thinking when purchasing other guns, bringing them home and cleaning them. I always emphasize that.
However, I experianced no problems do to a dirty gun in the seventy first rounds through it.
I then feild stripped the R9, and cleaned it, and it became spotless, no left behind residue.
Skyhook, you are welcome for the help of getting you together with a R9, and you helped out a friend of mine in the process, and for that I am grateful.

Guys, thanks for the well-wishing and positive comments.
Whenever I look at the R9, I see perfection and I certainly tend to keep my guns in tip-top condition. It's raining- again- so I'll probably wait for better weather to take the little beastie out for its trial run. I did the painting of the lube as per instructions found here (chameleon's friend even sent a sample tube of the *good stuff*), and I learned how to reassemble that recoil spring (made an aluminum tool to depress the spring to allow re-insertion).
LCP, yes, I live in NYS, but until very recently we had no problems with owning handguns.. this judge is turning into a CA Democrat as he morphs through his aging. Disgusting.

Skyhook, enjoy the pup, but don't let it get wet...hahaha.
So happy you got it in so short of time.
Judges and elected officials think they sit next to God.
Richard S has it right, make them do their required reading monthly.

Skyhook, could you please describe how you made the aluminum tool?

Bill, I made it out of desperation . ;D
I used a small piece of 2" Al right angle- it didn't have to be very wide a piece, just wide enough not to bend under the pressure. I then used a rat tail file to remove about 3/8" in the center of one edge, smoothed the area. The other wing of the angle served as a grip.
The semi-circular cut-out allows the recoil rod to protrude as the spring is compressed which then permits the careful insertion of the rod into the hole beneath the bbl.
Piece of cake. ;)

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
You are number one on the runway!
Bill
-
Sky,
Could you show us a photo?
-
Photo? Not in this lifetime.
I am presently at war with Kodak as their software seems to quite suddenly intensely dislike my 6330. (Insert cuss word of choice *here*.)
Sorry.

Great invention Skyhook!
I have read all these posts here and at other threads about that recoils spring.
I really don't think mine is, or was worn out after seventy rounds, but I took the gun apart, and removed, and reinstalled the recoil spring with just my hands.
I did it that way because I do not like the idea of using metal plyers on the inners of the gun.
I'm looking for something nylon, or plastic.
The Aluminum as in Skyhooks case would work fine.

Sky - your gadget seems elegantly simple - as are most excellent gadgets!!
I am like chameleon - it is a manual op' - albeit with a smidgeon of deep breathing and occasional cuss word but - by now anyways - it is something I am used to.
Fortunately despite age and some arthritis - I still have good strength in my hands - long may that continue.

Ahh, thanks for that reply R9SCarry, I thought that I had a defective spring or was doing something wrong.
I don't have a problem manipulating the spring yet, but as I stated, I'm looking for a tool for the future.
Thanks again.

Well skyhook - great that you got your R9 - as I noted on another thread I received mine today from our own irishguard Tom- and it is a beauty. I just got home from a late meeting so soon as I finish here I'll spend some quality time with the pup -- first I need to feed my own big pup. I like your idea of the spring insertion tool -- it would be great to see a picture of it if you ever have someone over with a digital camera that works. It will be a week or two until I can do a proper range test and I know I am dreading the "first take down" -- maybe it will be easy.
It seems several received there R9s today.

It stopped raining just long enough for me to step out the back door, set up the 21' target frame and fire twelve (12) rnds. at a B-27.
Score: Two 10s, eight (8) 9s, One (1) eight, with a flyer out of score- top right :-[
Those twelve were six 'timed' fire, six rapid fire.
The pup behaved very well (did everything as designed), but my trigger finger does have some bruising on the inside surface. I think I'll put on those kangeroo gloves next time.
I intend to do more noise-making once the better weather gets here sometime Sunday :)

Skyhook, it sounds great.
