OK,
I finally shot my R9s yesterday and here's what happened:
70 rounds total.
First, I put 50 rounds of the cheap speer range ammo, I had 0 failures of any kind! Quite accurate too. At this point I was happy as a clam.
Then I decided to put 20 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 124gr to finish off my test, since this would be my carry ammo.
Well, this is when it got strange. First, the R9 didn't like to chamber the 1st round of the mag. I would have to physically push the slide forward to get it to chamber. I checked the feed ramp which was smooth as a babys bottom.
Second, the 5th round of the mag would almost ALWAYS fail to completely chamber!!! I had to drop the mag and remove the bullet several times. It did this with BOTH mags.
This to me was very strange & disappointing.
Also, I noticed that on several Double Tap attempts, I would get skunked with the second round because the trigger would not fully reset. That also disappointed me.
Does anyone have a take on this?

The pup needs to be CLEAN -- after about 50 rounds, she's pretty cruddy -- which you'll see when you strip it.

Following what I thought was a major problem with my SIG - I got to realize that crud build up can seriously impair slide operation. I used to grease the SIG (stainless) but as steel on steel have now opted to use just Militec 1 oil.
Grease will quickly become contaminated and I found this was enough to act like a sludge, slowing down my slide and so giving failures. On the R9, I consider the slide must be 100% free to allow a full excursion, all way to rear - if this compromized then feed problems are very likely - tho why you had #5 giving a problem is odd.
Also - new gun - recoil spring has yet to ''relax'' a bit so - chances are a good strip and clean per various descriptions will see you running good next time and the gun will be breaking in better. Some high end 1911's even, are stated as needing several hundreds of rounds break in!

Thank you for the comments. I'll give it another go around before making final judgements.
I apologize if I spread negativity throughout the forum, as I feel I have with my post.
I haven't visited the forum for a while and it seems the tolerance for negative issues is diminishing.

Buz,
Welcome to the board if I have not done so..
Yes,50 or so rounds may be where you need to clean the pup.
I also agree with the newness of the gun being a factor in some of this..That 5th round problem is a bit different too??
But overall sounds like after a proper cleaning, check out the FAQ page, and you should not have a problem..
Welcome again...

I clean my R9S more frequently than every 50 rounds and have never had a problem. Anyway, I don't think I'd ever want to fire over 50 rounds at one session. Ouch.

I agree...I do not shoot more than 4 mags at a time normally!!
I clean at 50 or so..
Thats just where I feel comfortable in doing so!! ;D

Buz:
Let me first welcome you to the Forum and then express my agreement with comments made above by Brad, Chris, Brenden, and Murray.
Since the R9 is one of the smallest 9mm pistols yet made, its tolerances are minimal. Unlike a government-issue 1911, which can often function after being dropped in the mud, the R9 needs to be kept clean and lubricated. One might liken it to a fine sports car -- not built for "off road" work but superbly crafted for its intended purpose.
