Finally....the little guy got to do his thing at the range. First
shot @ 21 ft...bull...slightly low left. Accuracy went downhill from there but very acceptable. After 40 rds., we went back to the Steyrs for another 250 rds. or so. NO failures of any
kind...a very smooth and effective little machine. I hate to
say it but CCI Blazer fmj goes thru perfectly. I don't carry that ammo because of overpenetration, but it seems great for practice. My wife will probably not want to be borrowing the
pup....It's a little to much to handle. When she went back to the Steyr she said it felt like a cap gun. I do agree. This is not
a gun to grip lightly. Thank you all for the tips on skateboard
tape and the other methods of keeping the gun from jumping.
A wrap around rubber grip was added BEFORE we went to the range....I can only imagine a double tap without it.
It's easy to understand your passion for this finely made little machine....it feels gooooood in the hand and comes to life so
emphatically.

What Steyrs are you shooting? I've an S9 which I just love. I wonder how many others here are familiar with these weapons? Familiar with the Steyr Club?

Steyr....one of my favorite subjects....We have 5 Steyr 9s..
3 Ms and 2 Ss. LOVE that gun. The fastest on target and stays right there thru as many rounds as you care to fire. And
for us less experienced shooters....That's a BIG thing. We have upwards of 4000 rds. fired....no failures of any kind except a badly loaded mag. These guns fit a small hand perfectly....at least mine, my wife's and daughters. If you havn't tried a Steyr...you might be pleasantly surprised.
As for the little guy, he is my constant companion and will
probably remain so for a very long time.

I congratulate you for seeing that your wife and daughters are familiar with the use of firearms. Training folks to defend themselves is a gift that keeps on giving. Good luck with your new pistol.

Great news post Brian - I am well pleased for you.
Good too re having the family well up in practice too - I need to get Bonnie to range again soon as well as getting Beth my step daughter further training - she is 21 today and will soon have her CCW and her own gun.
Probably for starters it'll be a Bersa 380. She has tried the pup but finds it a shade too ''aggressive'' ;)

Gander Mountain has been having a sale on the Bersa .380.
Seems like price was around $220, more or less. It was the two-tone.

Academy has them at that price pretty regularly -- for anyone living in TX -- so does my local smith, but I figured if anyone else on here lived around Kerrville, I'd know by now.

I got a friend of ours set up with one a few months ago for that. Must go check it out again.

I've always liked your part of Texas. I went to the Bandara area, and always wanted to visit Kerrville and take a factory tour of Mooney airplanes.
Do you know where Sabinal is? I crashed an airplane there one day, just after completing a one-hour aerobatic training flight.
I decided to do one more spin to get down from 7000' and return to Hondo.
The baggage door broke open, and tie-down ropes got caught in the tail. I could not control the nose up-down, so had to parachute.
The airplane passed me on the way down, and I said a very serious prayer. :)

Sounds like a Citabria. I know several people who have been killed and almost killed in them due to different types of structural failures.
Fortunately, I have a very good friend who has an Extra 300 which I fly quite a bit. The only thing I have to worry about in that plane is my performance and judgement.

Now that is what I would call a close encounter of the worst kind! Back in my days of recreational flying, I occasionally had a nightmare about something like that occurring.

Personally, I would rather spend the rest of my life w.o. the phrase -- "the plane passed me on the way down" Did I mention I don't like small planes...although I want to try gliding sometime -- I think I just don't like people I don't know flying me in small planes...ever since I first started racing, I have a hard time w. most people driving as well.

Sounds like you don't like to allow others to control
you in any kind of vehicle--don't blame you but large
airplanes can pass you on the way down, too.
Most people don't like to be passengers because of the
lack of control factor. As you know, normal driving is
far more hazardous than flying in the back of a scheduled
air carrier.

It was a T-34, which also had its share of troubles in recent times. I understand the wings have came off on occasion. Maybe the metal is getting old.

I might add that I'm kind of a sissy fellow who gets scared pretty easy, but for some reason I was relaxed and glad to get out of the airplane safely.
Using a well-trained amateur radio voice, I called "Mayday Mayday" and scared the daylights out of some students on the frequency, so they told me later.
While pulling the canopy back, the left parachute strap came off my shoulder. I fixed it tight. Real tight! Being concerned about busting my head on the tail, I walked out halfway on the left wing by the star, relaxed, and was swept off.
All I could think about was telling the big story that night.
