Title: R9 or 9s?

I have a pup that has a front and rear sight.  The slide is marked R9.  I notice in the Rohrbaugh photos the slide is marked 9s when it has sights.  Did they originally not mark the s on the slide?

Very early sited had an S as a suffix..
The R Bros had to make all the pups(sited/non sited) as R9,due to Govt./BATFE regs,(so I am to understand)

So if the pup has sites or not,they will be both marked R9..
