Just bought a R9 on the 31st. Was a little worried about it after reading some of these post about jamming/feeding problems. So today I decided to put it to the test. Understand I am no ammo/gun guru but here are my results.

I first run a box of 50 rounds of the cheap 9mm NATO solid ball millitary ammo through it. No jams & 1 miss fire (the primer was punched) must have been a bad shell.

I then ran a box of 50 Winchester 115G solid ball no problems (bought from Walmart).

5 rounds of Aguila 65G HP IQ no problems.

5 rounds Federal 147G JHP Hydra-Shok personal defence no problems.

And finally 5 rounds Federal 135G JHP Hydra-Shok personal defence no problems.

I feel confident with this weapon & plan to carry it daily. I will however say that in an earlier post someone said that they run 300 round through theirs in something like 15 min. or 1/2 hour. All I have to say to that is YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!

My hand hurts so bad right now that I am typing with my left pointer finger.

I know why you guys call this gun the pup. It bites HARD!!

Welcome to the club, Deeredale!

Yeah, I can't shoot my R9 like some folks do - just a mag now and again to keep things working like they should.  It's a great little gun for carry - but when I'm looking for fun shooting, something else comes out of the safe.  My hands just cannot take the abuse the pup delivers.

Be sure to read the FAQ, and lube properly, and your pup should serve you well.

Welcome Deerdale!

Your experience seems to be the dominant one for new pups these days - mine has been nearly perfect, although I have not put as many rounds through it in one session as what you described.

I second Seven on the range gun - a 1911 is a lot kinder to me than the pup when I want to spend some time on the range  ;D

Welcome aboard, and thank you for the good range report.  Just keep your "pup" clean and well lubricated, don't let it overheat during range sessions, and it should serve you well.

Thanks everyone. I think this will be the perfect conceal weapon for me. I used to carry the Kahr PM9. Really did not have any problems with is but this one is allot easier on my back.

I also own a couple of the Colt pocket nines & several of the Colt 380s. They are also wonderful carry guns but they seem to be raising in value so quickly that they have become more of collector pieces rather the working guns.

One thing I forgot to ask is that the return spring in the R9 is about 1/8" to 3/16" shorter then the new one that came with the gun. Does this mean it is time to replace? I have reached the 100 round mark.

Welcome to the forum Deeredale,  it sounds like your pup performed pretty much as mine did  on it's first outing,except for my grip  screws came loose.  I can fix that easily enough, so needless to say I was/am pleased as  it seems you are.

Glad to hear a nice report!  BTW, you might want to go easy on the NATO 9mm ammo.  The R9 is standard pressure only, and that NATO stuff is loaded very hot.

I hope your hand recovers soon!

New word is that recoil spring should be changed every ioo rounds.
I changed mine last at 150.When I made the first change the used spring was two coils shorter then the new spring.  Two mags after the spring instal I disessembled the pistol and guess what?The old spring(150 rounds) and the new spring(14 rounds)were the same length--two coils short .

If the new recomendation is to change every 100 rounds thats what I'm going to do.

Marvin, Thanks. I ordered 4 new springs yesterday. I think it will be wise to follow all the recommandations to avoid any problems.

A late welcome!!

Glad the pup is doing well for you..

The way I understand is that 100 rounds is the reccomended time for the spring change..

I was in on the "early" recomendation of "many more".. ;)

I do not shoot my carry pup a whole lot,has been good for me after break in,so I do not worry a lot about the change..

I think I have averaged between 200-250 before a change..
This is just me..

I have not had a problem before the change,or after.. :)

Feed the pup what it likes to eat,and that will make it happy!! 8)
