Title: Opinions?  R9s, using 124GR. GD's?
Post by: erh on November 09, 2006, 08:29:45 PM
I have several boxes and am working up my nerve, and REALLY hoping I am not
"Once again" disappointed in the performance w/ the R9s I just got back...
This is one of my "Old New One's" that's decided to come home.
As you all likely know I've tried repeatedly...  With remarkably mediocre results...

Thanks for some friendly & helpful input in these regards y'all..,

E!

Eric,
So you expect a "miracle" with a gun that you earlier off loaded, because of not working right for you.. ;) ;D

I appreciate you wanting to "make" the pup work-that is a given..

I have not personally used 124s,I am a 115 guy..
Have also used 115 STHPs,and WWB 115s.. No probs..

I wish you the best with the pup,and if you continue to have problems after a reasonable break in period, deal with the R Bros-they will take care of it.. :)

Brenden

I haven't been able to get my hands on any 115's, so I have been using 124's (either GD's or Federal's) in ALL my 9mm guns (Kahr, Walther, Baby Eagle,R9s) without any problems!

Eric,

If you still have reliability problems, look for the thread in this sub forum titled Here is the ammo that works.  I can just about guarantee that those loads will be 100% reliable in your R9.

Thanks Brenden,

I appreciate your input...  Truth is this "Pup" I just had return home is NOT one I had problems with, though I have had "Major reliability issues" w/ 3 others...  I did have one that was "Perfect" right out of the box; don't recall what came up causing me to trade her off, but sometimes we just simply do "Dumb things..!" (LOL..!)

As to reasonable break in periods; IMHO, & given the metallurgy and technology of today; it's nothing that "Jive's" by me, and I understand that w/ man made "Stuff" things happen...  Thus the statement that some companies feel they must put out saying if after "X" # of rounds it's still not reliable, we'll try & do something about it...  Again I understand that from a business perspective, but in the real world of reliable personal protection I think our "Pup's" should be expected to perform correctly and perfectly from the get go...

Anyone who does carry "all the time & always" should have the security immediately of NO concerns about the function of this, their chosen handgun; particularly these which should for all intents and purposes be the "Creme de la creme."

I expect that I'll be "Shootin' the tar out of this one" in the days to follow & I again hope to have gotten one back that is "Good to go, from point A..!"
I've had (And have...) several quality handguns that have been 100% "Right out of the box, for now, and after several years of use..."  They also are more commonly NOT (+-) $1000.00 handguns.  (Well.., some are a frightening bit more actually, but not all by any means...)

Suffice it to say, that I'm back for another try and hope that my "Point of view" does not in any way "Stir the Pot" in the controversy department for anyone on this very fine forum.  That truly is Not my intent at all...  I just feel the need to share my views & nothing more.

I'm glad to be back for another go at it indeed..!  Truthfully I'm also glad to be back, to participate again occasionally with whom I find to be an intelligent and "Tight Knit" buncha folks..!

Respectfully to all,

E!

PS - Brenden, Nice to "Talk At'cha again Pal!"; How've ya been..?

Eric - I settled on 124 GD's way back and have stayed with them.  At last time of shooting with those all was well with R9 #2.

#1 resides in safe these days!

Eric, in most of the R9s I have sold, the customers also bought GD 124s. No problems. Tom

Brenden & Tom,

It does seem Sweet to have found the right rounds for it..!
I'll stick with them a while & plan on running at least a couple to a few hundred more through her before I trust her.
Anyway, I'm "Tickled" at the moment.

** On a side note; 1 of my 2 magazine follower return springs has gone flat...  I guess I need to call Rohr. today and see if they'll send me a couple new ones.

Take it easy,

E!

PS - Tom - "I'm sure glad you're back and that you seem to be doing well Pal..!"

What Tom said.

I stopped by my local dealer's shop yesterday to replenish my Gold Dot inventory.  He was out of the 124 grs. but ordered a supply for me.  In the meantime, I picked up some 115 grs. as extra fodder for a holiday range session.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

And I thought it was the 115's that they likes.  I will try the 124 next time, if they work good then I only have 1 size bullit to buy!!!!
