Title: Update on my stealth

Hello all.
I have been kind of busy and haven't had a chance to report on the progress of my pistol.  I got a call from Karl Rohrbaugh last Fri. He said it was good news bad news. The good news was that he found that the problem with my gun was that the slide was out of spec. He said it slipped through quality control and he was sorry, but he would make it right. The bad news was that they were closing up shop untill the 14th, so I would not be getting my gun back untill the 15th or 16th. Thats ok with me. Of course I would like to have it back sooner, the main thing is that it comes back working right. I will post again when its back and I have given it a range test.

I have not had my stealth for very long, but so far I have not saw any problems.

The finish on the Stealth is impressive.  I carry mine tucked into my belt in the front and regularly sweat all over it.  No problems so far.

However, be careful what types of solvents you use on it.  I used regular gunk brand degreaser on the slide shortly after I first got mine and the gunk dulled the finish up quite a bit.  I can still tell the difference but expecting the finish to stay exactly the same on stainless steel and aluminum is a bit unrealistic anyway.

My personal opinion is get the Stealth, it is top notch.

I am going to have to disagree with you.  I own 2 R9's.  I can tell you that all the problems you have heard of are very real.  Some get fine shooters, others have many problems and I have heard on this forum from one individual that had both the modified springs in his gun and still have problems.  I love my R9's and both are 100% reliable IF I use very specific loads for them.  If I don't use one of the 3 loads both mine are jam city.  I have not yet ordered the updated springs.  Little money problem as of late but I have expectations that reliability with more types of ammo will be the result of the new springs.

My R9S Stealth gets carried 24/7 in a Desantis Nemisis pocket holster. Not the first sign of wear and have not had a problem with it after first trip back to the factory.

Target world in Cincinnati has a new R9S and a used R9 both in stainless.

So he is still looking for a dealer. I suggested he contact theirsishguard and see what he can do for him. I am amazed with my R9s. I feel that people who bad mouth these fine guns are jealous, because they can't afford one, or have never seen one.

Karl sent me information on Hornady One Shot cleaner/degreaser lubricant. That's what I am using now and it works great.

Thanks for passing along Karl's recommendation on the Hornady product.  I'll give it a try.

I've been carrying and shooting my R9 for three years now, using Ballistol --

to clean and lubricate it, with also a very light touch of Super Lube grease --

on the slide/frame interface. I usually carry it in a Hedley BP holster. It's not a Stealth but one of the original Farmingdale "two-tones."  However, its finish shows no appreciable wear, as shown by this recent photograph of the pistol:

Speaking for myself, I trust my R9 completely and would not think of selling it.  The next time its title passes will be in connection with the probate of my estate.

I agree with Richard -my R9 has been completely reliable.  I did get the new mag springs but didn't have any troubles with the original.  Only have shot Silvertips and Golddots through it - mainly 115 gr.

No probs with any of my pups!! Old school too!! ;)

I am carring a Deer Park model as we speak-I trust it to protect me and mine.. 8)

I hate to even change out to anything new-the JU-JU may not be there!! ;D

I wish all the best for the guys that have problems-My pups have been perfect so far..

A careful review of past posts will show some problems with the R9s. However these numbers of pistols are a small percentage of total guns made and shipped. The Rohrbaugh folks have fixed all of the problems on those guns except for about 2. I think some of those problems were in part due to not using the right ammo. And of course a few folks just could not shoot the little pup. Of all the guns I sold only one had problems but was fixed by Rohrbaugh. For you new guys, most of us on the forum think this is a great little gun that could save our bacon if called on.  Tom

Are you an Ohio resident also?

Yes I am in SW Ohio. The Hornady cleaner is real nice. It does not have the gun cleaner smell the better half doesn't like and it is a dry lube. The more I use it the better I like it.
