After months of my finger ready to "left click" I finally did it. A R9S should be here Wednesday!! In a perverse way it's my recent experience with a Ruger LCP that pushed me into doing the deed. My son, a police officer in a local agency, ached over the LCP for a back-up as the P239 is just too heavy during foot pursuits of the "independent drug salesmen". He carries a P229 in 357 Sig as a primary and a Rock River AR-15 for the heavy stuff. So it's his as of tonight. So I looked for another on-line and saw a R9S just hours away...yum!! A work buddy had me try his last month and we were scoring impressive hits at 25yds...jeez!!! Sold me! Now...how do I explain this to the Minister of Finance? ( I also have a P220 Carry DAO in-bound). I'm toast. :-[

M14-68:
Welcome to the Forum!
As for that explanation to the "Minister of Finance," tell her that you want the finest pocket pistol ever made to provide her with adequate protection and that she absolutely deserves it. (It worked for me. ;) )
-
I got her a Nighthawk Talon II Bobtail in 9mm last year but i wore that 'at-a-boy" out already. My everyday carry is a Nighthawk T3 but I'm sold on this pocket pistol thing now. I love fine machining (Nighthawks) and this jewel should fit in nicely. Glad to be aboard.
-
Congrats on the new R9- from another new owner. BTW- I love that T3 myself but my minister of finance would make me share the bed with it if I bought it(alone that is). :(
-
She is also the Minister of "other things" so that tends to keep me in line...sort of. ::) Looks a hookey day from work on Thursday to break it in. The R9S I mean. ;D Have some Win White Box to burn then load with TAP.
-
Sounds like a great day- Enjoy Thursday 8)

Richard S Good Form on the "Minister of Finance"
-
Well my "Minister of Finance" is only 4-11 and about a buck 15 in weight but yet she is bullet-proof and does not need a megaphone.....I don't understand how so much noise can come out of something that small.
The good news... I just tell her that all gun purchases are investment grade and as long as I "specifically" buy her one once in awhile, I'm golden....and never ever threaten to take the Model 41 Smith away from her! She is obsessed with that thing. I even tried to get her to shoot the P7K3 suppressed 22 and she handed it right back, "give me mine back"...hummf, women

welcome to the forum. Keep on the good side of the queen, must keep her happy or all of the subjects will have problems. ;) Tom

Hooray!!!! :) :) It's here!!! My FFL called at dinner and it was under his front door mat!!! Jeez. So, took it all apart, cleaned it lubed it and I'm ready for the range tomorrow morning. Range report to follow. I wonder if I'll be able to sleep tonight? The Minister thinks it's another Ruger LCP...so far so good...hehehehehe!! ;D
-
Cong Rats; I love those equipment hold out funds.
-
Range report:
50 round Win WB 115 gr...flawless
20 rounds Speer GD's 124gr. 3 failure to fire on 1st pull one round took 3 attempts.
25 rounds Hornady TAP 115 gr. flawless.
40 rounds Ultramax reman's 115gr. FMJ..3 failure to feed and 1 failure to extract. The pistol was getting pretty hot and dirty at that point so I'll put it down to that and the fact it was reman ammo. Took it apart and it was pretty dirty. Through cleaning and lube with GunButter. It feels a little smoother after being excercised and I can tell the recoil spring has lost some tension.
Overall, I'm very pleased and impressed. It's loaded with Tap and ready to go!!
-
good show, what was the deal with the GD? Tom
-
Not sure but it looked like hard primers (soft strike?) but did not have that issue with any other ammo. I'm going to get a few boxes of GD's to see if it is some match up problem with this particular pistol or was it just a bad run of ammo. At the moment I know it works with TAP and that is what I will go with.
I just relooked at the GD primers and the problem rounds have a primer that looks "smeared" or squished rather than dimpled...very strange.
-
I use GD 124 gr myself and I know others use it also. Tom
-
That's what I use and I have never had an issue with it in mine.
-
M14-68, Congrats on you R-9. Welcome to the forum. Lucky for me my Minister of Finance has always said : If you can figure out how to buy it, Go ahead! Dan
-
Thanks, glad to be here! Took the little jewel for another outing today before the temp with through the roof. Another flawless operation with Win White Box and Hornady TAP. Speer GD's on order to see if I had just a bad batch of ammo. But for now, it goes outside with TAP. Between range sessions there is much fondling and cooing.
-
124 gr gd used here also, no problems ever.
Pete

That fondling and cooing, so well said, never seems to stop.
-
Ok, thought i would close this one out with another range report. Recall I had some failures to fire with Speer GD's a while back. The primers had a "squished" look rather than a nice firm dimple. I held off on carrying with GD's and used Hornady TAP as they proved to be 100% in my pistol. Well I jusk got back from the range and went through 25 rounds of 147 gr GD's with no issues. Primers had nice dimples. I can only assume my previous bad experience was due to a lot that hard especially hard primers. Got to clean the baby and deceide what to load. Hummmm? I might stick with TAP as it's a lower flash ammo and that might be a plus in a dark situation. But it's good to know the GD issue seems to be settled.
One more thing: My son is a police officer in a local agency. I rode with him and his partner since the last post. They insisited I carrry. Guess what went along for the ride? ;D

Wow that's pretty cool they let you carry while riding with them. I guess it helps he's your son. I have a good friend and did several "ride-alongs" and they told me I couldn't carry mine.... and even reminded me it was against State Law to even carry onto the Cop Shop Property as it is City Government Property, a definite no no in Ohio.

I ride with another local agency and i can't even bring a pen knife. i do bring a flashlight and that does come in handy.
