Title: New to pocket guns

I just discovered the Rohrbaugh and this forum.  From what I've read it sounds very impressive.

I've been a big fan of the Springfield XD series and own an XD .40 SC and an XDm 9mm.

I really wanted a good quality compact carry gun and about a month ago I bought a Seecamp .32.  I love the Seecamp, but after discovering this site I'm thinking my next gun purchase will be a Rohrbaugh.  I do like the fact that the Roghbaugh doesn't have a magazine safety.

Well I just wanted to say hello to everyone, I'll be lurking around and will hopefully be an owner before too long.

Both the Rorhbaugh and the Seecamp are fine, very high quality pistols.

The power of the Rorhbaugh is its advantage.(and no mag safety)

The Seecamp is much more concealable and less that half the cost of the Rorhbaugh.

Neither is fun to shoot.  Not a ctiticism, just a fact of a small contact patch with the hand and significant power. They are made for a specific purpose. These are not recreational firearms.

Both are sensitive to ammo types. Not a problem if you pay attention to it.

 I think they are in a league of their own.  ;D

Welcome aboard.  You'll find a significant number of Seecamp and Rohrbaugh owners both have one of each.  They are both very well engineered and true pocket guns.  I've been very happy with each of mine.

Don,

I have one very strong disagreement with your post.  The R9 is VERY fun to shoot.  That is a conundrum we R9 owners must deal with.  I can easily shoot my R9's far, far more than they really should be shot.  IMO the R9 is a blast to blast with at the range.  I personally do not recomend this practice but it is hard to resist.

My XD's are a .45 Bi-tone and a 9mmSC, and they are a couple of my favorite pistols.
But.. (always a "but"), the 9SC is way to thick and bulky for anything but winter wear under jackets (for me, anyway).

And like you, I looked at the Seecamp, specifically the .380, but it appears there's a 14 month waiting list and that ain't gonna' happen at my age.   ???

I wanted the Seecamp for it's small size, but after a bit of thought, I went ahead and ordered the R9S Stealth which should be in my hands within a couple of weeks.

I have a feeling I'm going to like it, and I'm guessing that it will be replacing my PPK as my dressing-light pistol.

The thing is, I have over 500 rounds of Fed. HST 9mm 124gr. (not +P) , so I'm hoping that the new puppy likes it.

Over the years, I changed my pocket-carry gun from the PPK first to the Colt Mustang and then to the NAA Guardian. Then the R9 was unveiled at SHOT 2002. I ordered mine (No. 132) sight unseen and took delivery of it in May 2004. It has been my constant companion ever since.

Well, the PPK actually was the Gold Standard "back in the day".
I bought mine brand new in '74 way before CCW was legal, so carrying defensively was more "dangerous" back then.
If you got made by police, you'd immediately have a pistol put to your head, and you very easily went to jail.
So if you wanted to carry back then, deep concealment wasn't just a slogan, it was an absolute necessity.
(But I'm just talking a "what if" thing here. I mean, I never carried back then because as we know, it was against the law.  :o )

It's how thin the PPK is that makes it such a great carry piece, but of course, it's heavy, too.

So being able to upgrade to a 9mm that's smaller and lighter than my beloved PPK .380 is a no-brainer, and I don't think I'm going to miss the Walther.

By the way, what's that holster your R9S is sitting on?

The holster behind the R9 is a Hedley Limited Edition.
