Do they jammed often?
-
No. Mine has never jammed in over five years of daily carry and frequent practice.
-
They are very reliable if you stick with ammo they like and hold them very solid.
I've never had a failure-to-fire with 115gr FMJ Winchester and PMC, nor with 115gr JHP Speer GD. Mine hates Hornady Critical Defense though.
It's only experienced three failure-to-feeds. It was with three different people (myself included). Each time was due to limp-wristing on our initial experience firing it. With so little weight and such a strong recoil spring, it really needs your grip for the cycle to work.
-
Speer GD and Win ST work 100%. The only two failures I had were from limp-wristing as I got familiar with it in the first two mags. Once I solidified my lazy grip, I have been 100% for the last year.

No problems at all with Winchester Silvertips. Haven't tried anything else due to success of this rd.
-
Could it be that the apparently misinformed dealer wanted to sell this customer another handgun, since he didn't have any R9's in stock? Just curious --- ;D
-
That is quite possible and also crossed my alleged mind.
-
Once I broke mine in, and then I fired 200 rounds straight without incident.
I depend my life on my R-9 daily.

And, let's not forget the 147 grain bullet which, for me, is the antidote to any mechanical issues with the R9.
-
NOt tried that one yet, but have it in the arsenal; Winchester 115 gr. Silvertips still hanging in there with no problems.
-
I've made my point many times as to the 147 grain bullet. However, shortage appears to be behind us in the north country and I will give lighter weight bullets a try when I find them.
