I picked up a very slightly used R9S a couple of weeks ago, finally got to try it out. I loaded with 115gr Remington FMJ ball, standard pressure...and had one in every three rounds fail to fire. Repeated hammer strikes just would not set off the primers.
So...obviously, you would carry hollowpoints for social use. But it would seem reasonable to use ball ammo for training. Who makes a good training round?

Try Winchester; I would not fire Remington in the R9. This is due to some bad experiences with UMC.

If you haven't already, I'd take the grips off and check the spring under the grip.

I have had good luck with the Winchester white box 115gr FMJ
ammo.

What Yankee2500 says. I have yet to have a WWB fail to go boom on the first strike.

Ihave shot both Federal and WWB bal ammo with no trouble. My issues were all around the JHP that had the same problem you report. I had no issues with Speer GD 124gr though, which is my daily carry ammo.

Remington UMC is junk a lot of failure to fire before. Best is blazer brass from walmart, winchester etc.

Me too.

I've also had very good luck with Speer Lawman as well as WWB.
