Title: dent on the new R9s I got
Post by: tquieng on August 24, 2009, 10:39:52 PM
Finally got my R9s except the slide has a dent in it. About 1 mm deep dent on the back of the slide.  Called my dealer and they say call factory.
I think I will call factory to see what they can do.

Thats the first "dent" I have herd of.  You have a one of a kind!  If you can how about posting a picture of it.  I don't blame you for wanting it to be perfect.  They cost enough that they should be!

Good luck.  Let us know how it goes (although I know it will be delt with to very high CS standards, they always take care of the owner!).

And welcome to the forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should have mentioned in my previous post that, while I am confident that Maria will take care of this for you, it is in my opinion highly unlikely that the pistol left the factory with a dent in the slide. The quality control there is extraordinarily strict, with each pistol being individually tested and carefully examined prior to packaging. Instead, I would give odds on that someone along the distribution chain couldn't keep his "grubby paws" off of the little beauty, carelessly dropped it on some hard surface or another, then repacked it and sent it on its way.

Agree.

Before having my new R9 sent to a FFL dealer in my town, I asked a few of them (dealers) if they would NOT open the box and handle the gun until I was present to pick it up.
ALL of them, with the exception of one, said they wouldn't assure me that their employees would not open the box to examine the gun. Especially when they found out it was a Rohrbaugh.
Guess which FFL dealer got my business?

There is no doubt about the strict quality control on new production
guns and I have nothing but the highest regard for the Rohrbaugh
factory personnel.
However, when I returned my gun to them last year for warranty
work it was returned to me with some noticeable scratches on the
underside of the frame and trigger guard. These scratches were not
there when it was shipped and it appeared as if they had been caused
by a vise or clamp that held the gun while it was in the shop.
The warranty work was superb and return service was quick.

I too seriously doubt the gun left the factory with a dent.  Only two people have the job inspect those guns before they go out--and one has his name on the slide.  It's not an assembly line by any means.  They are packed with care.

My guess is that it  happened after the gun left the factory.

Furthermore, I don't understand your dealer telling you to call the factory.  Did they see this damage when you opened the gun at the dealership?  They should take care of this for you -- not make you deal with a problem with a brand new gun.  That scores a "ZERO" on customer service for the dealer.

On the other issue of damage at the factory, I am assured that no gun is EVER placed in a vice grip of any kind.  However, what often does happen is that guns are damaged in shipping to the factory.  This is most commonly the result of poor packing--and letting the magazine shift around in the box with the gun.  The mag bounces off the gun in transit and creates scratches.

A word to the wise -- if you have to send a mag with the gun, either put it in the gun or wrap it carefully so it won't mar your gun's finish!

Duane,

The scratches on my weapon were not caused by poor wrapping or
loose magazines rattling around. I never send extra mags to the
factory just because of that possibility. The damage that I experienced
was clearly done in handling by whomever and whyever at the
shipping destination.
I always tightly wrap my gun in bubble wrap with no chance of move-
ment during shipping. The scratches run underneath the barrel to under
neath the trigger guard and on the top of the backstrap underneath the
hammer. This damage was not random banging around in the shipping
process. I would not have mentioned this if that had been a possibility.

Tracker -- I wasn't necessarily saying that was your issue -- I have no idea.  Just pointing out this is a common occurrence.

If you think the damage was done at the factory, you should call them.  Those guys are very particular about the way they handle and fix guns.

I talked to them and the issue was not resolved.

I knew it would be taken care of in a first class manner, unlike the Corbon issue.

Damn Yankee2500, having to bring up that CORBON issue again...  Salt in the wound.  Still out 4 boxes of ammo.  Thanks for reminding me.

Sorry, but stuff like that rubs me the wrong way. I'd be posting that on every gun forum I could find, along with calling and e-mailing them every day multiple times.

OR, you would kick back and see what happens.  Focus by priority...  I have gone into stealth mode.  Once it turns a full year, I will write the President a letter.  That should be amusing.

See, that's why we need serialized bullets and cases.

You could put the serial number of every round in your letter and BHO could personally go track them down for you.

See? It's not about eliminating firearms, it's about the president being able to HELP you better.  Don't you want to help him help you?   ::)

It dues happen from the factory. I have a small ding in my Elite frame just below the hammer that whose there before it whose coated by S&W. I'm very shire they will happily refinish it and dress out the ding if I made a stink over it.

The holster ware is way way more unsightly then that little ding is.

Yeah, that's the idea.  Go to "nanny daddy" and get HIM to take care of me.  Isn't that what this country has been reduced to?  Why shouldn't *I* get my CORBON STIMULUS package?
