Title: Mag extensions
Post by: yankee2500 on August 16, 2009, 11:52:59 PM
Got the Straight still looking for a Hooked mag extension ;D
I had this posted in the wish list section and got no replys, so I'll try it here. Seems there is a lot of intrest and very little action. If someone who has a mag extension (hooked) and wants to lend it to me I have a guy who could probably make some extensions, but wants to see one. If you have one to lend let me know by PM or E-mail. If you want a cash deposit to keep till it's returned I will be glad to do that.

John,

I have a new black straight extension I can loan to you. PM me with your mailing address.  If your manufacturer decides to make these, I hope he can come up with a more durable finish.  I have a couple of these mounted, and the finish on the lower leading edge begins to wear easily from everyday carry.

Please keep me posted also.
I'd love to have a couple myself.

Unless these turn out bad I am also going to want a pair.

If they turn out bad no one will ever see them but me ;D
But I don't expect that will be the case, I have seen his work and it is outstanding. I will post info as soon as I have some. I could still use a one of the hooked extensions if someone wants to make a loan of one.

I'd like two of each--the straight and hooked--thanks for doing this for us!

John

Good luck with this venture. As we discussed via PM, I would gladly give you my mag extensions if I still had them.

The two mag extensions I received were well made but were disproportionate to the R9, looked awful and did not enhance performance of the gun. I hope this is not your experience if you get the mag extensions machined.

One thing for sure: you are looking for the definitive rig. You have your Robar R9, Rafter S holster is in the pipeline..... When do you quit? Or, what's next?

I'm in for 2 mag extensions.  I have one of the silver straight ones that I feel is an integral part of the R9.  Hope this works out.

I tend to agree with ACP although I have left my extensions on.  The Hogue checkered grips are much more beneficial to me than the mag extension, which, I think in my case, may provide more psychological comfort, than actual performance increase.

I do think differnet hand sizes and grip strength may play a role in whether the extensions help or not.

I put strips of skateboard tape on the front and back straps.  Love it.

Sure would like to try some mag extensions, if I could find them...

Well it's been a while for this update but it took a little longer to get the info from my first machinest and the news was not good, he can not make them due to the thin groove were they slide onto the mag. I went to another shop today and they had the same response but gave me the name of a shop that they said if anyone could do it they could. So I will try to go there Thursday, my only fear is the cost if they can do them but I guess the first obstacle is to find out if they can make them.
I hope the next update is all good news.

John,

Is all this worth the effort?

I guess if it makes even one person happy it's worth it. :)
The only down side is if it can't be done by this shop I may be out of options and then no one is happy :(

John,
This can be done all that is needed is the proper cutter.  I used to be a tool & Die maker, my dad owned the business but he and I got out almost 30 years ago.  I'll talk to one of my friends about this tomorrow.

Hello all,

I don't mean to rain on someone's parade but I just received two magazine extensions from Pearce Grip (http://www.pearcegrip.com/kahr.htm) and the mag extensions they produce for the Kahr 9mm pistols will work on our Rohrbaugh 9mm  pistols.

Welcome to the group
No rain here, they are PLASTIC and to me only belong on a Plastic gun, great for Glocks and LCPs but there will never be one on my pup, and it  will never ride in a Plastic (Kydex) holster.

Agree, I have tried the pearce extensions and don't care for them.  I believe you have to do some machine and shim work to have them fit properly as well, at least I had to.

If IDM was able to make them they its logical to assume that someone else will be able also.  The trick is just to find that shop with the proper cutter and good talent.

I too agree that the plastic extension has no place on the R9.

What about getting in touch with this guy?
