Title: Elite on Gun Broker $2,200?
Post by: rohrbaugh_girl on November 10, 2009, 12:57:30 AM
There's a listing for an Elite on Gun Broker asking $2,200 (and another for even more) claiming that it's no longer produced.
Is that true? I hope not. I've always ment to pick up another
but for that price, I'd rather wait for the R45.

Is an R45 really going to be produced?  If so, any idea of when?

The Elite is no longer produced. The Robar the same people say is no longer produced is in fact still produced.  Both of the listings for the Elites and Robars listed on gunbroker are from the same guy. (I think he lists under P-A-G and Littlej10040)  He is always careful not to show the serial number on both of the similar weapoms. But Both are from Reading , PA and Both appear magically at the same time. One always with a high price and the other with just over charging enough to make it look like a deal when compaired. But he over charges on everything. ie: the Robars list price $1795.00 the Elites MSRP was $1395.00
His prices $1999.00 and $1975.00 today (He just lowered his price from $2200. no bids of course)  I actualy wrote him and asked if he realised the Robar was in fact a current model and that Retail was $1795.00,  He wrote me back saying basically to f@#k off and he knows I will never be a customer and that he can charge whatever he wishes.
So , just catching you up on that particular dealer. He is so high I have never seen anything he listed in the Rohrbaugh area even getting bid on.  He does the same in all his other listings as well.

It should be at the Shot Show in January.  Tom from the Irish Guard stated should be available early next year.  Several of us have deposits on the R45 with Tom already.  Check with him as he will help you get one when available.

Funny, I was about to buy the same weapon.  I wonder what the retail price will be though?

Have not heard,  Sometimes you can get the CDP II Ultra for as low as $995 around here. I think retail is about $1400.00

Gee, I remember you… You’re the guy that repeatedly wrote trying to browbeat me into “giving you a break” on a firearm “off Gunbroker”..  Hmmm, you have ZERO feedback and obviously no compunction about stiffing GB either – in my position, I doubt even you would sell to somebody like you.

To refresh your memory, my reply to your devious email address was “Thank you in advance for taking your comments and your business elsewhere”

Gun broker is a great forum for selling rare and hard to find items, I have sold about 50 guns there this year – with 100% positive feedback, the other guy you trash has over 300 – 100% positive – while guys like you with zero mooch and parasite the system – then have the stones to squawk about sellers that blow you off…  Apparently you were unsuccessful in your attempts to bully him as well??

Out of control people like you are the poster children of the gun control crowd.

I hesitate to get involved in this, as there is no way to know the facts, but I can definitely see why Chief is suspicous of multiple identities, or at the very least collusion between these sellers on Gunbroker.  The first picture in both auctions seem to be composed very similarly, and I would suspect on the same wooden desk or counter.

I certianly do not begrudge someone setting a high price on whatever it is they want to sell as long as the description and facts describing the item are accurate.  It's the sellers right to ask however much they wish for an item, and it's the buyer's option whether or not to pay the price.  Buyers should have the duty to educate themselves about the market before plunging into a substantial purchase, and if they don't, it's their mistake.

I, for one, have paid way to much for some firearms, just because I was impatient, and also really didn't do a good job of researching the market.  One guy on HKpro hung me with a P7M13 that he described as "mint" that while in good shape, was not what I expected.  To this day I cringe when I see the word "mint".

There will always be tension between buyers and sellers.  We can only hope that both sides bargain in good faith.  In this case, I think Chief has some valid concerns.

Here are the pictures than I noted in my last post (if I can get them to post correctly):

Edit: can't get them to show up as images. Here are the links:

Little footnote. I have purchesed several guns off of Gunbroker. I just do not concern myself with Feedbacks.
(One of the was a Rohrbaugh)
And the Phrase "Buyer Beware" is always valid.

I noticed one of the Elites dropped off the listing on Gunbroker. Still 2 Robars there though :)

That Elite was nearly twice the original price.  I know, is now discontinued.

He was listing one of the Robars for $3200. Have never seen anyone bid on any though.  I had a guy a few months ago with an elite he was selling for $1250. I was worried it would turn into a safe queen so i passed on that one.

I don't know this guy but he is trying to leverage the sale toward someone who does not want to wait the leadtime for a Robar R9, (for example), with a price that is several hundred dollars greater than a guy who orders from factory with a substantial leadtime.

This is not uncommon. Remember, "price and value" are two seperate things. Value of a Robar R9 is about $1800.00 but the price is what one is willing to pay. Presuming that someone does not want to wait 12 or 14 weeks, this seller's price is "valid" for the point referenced above.

Right on, ACP.  It's what you're willing to pay, is the factor.

Thank you. I was very fortunate to have acquired my Robar R9 for fair market price (with aded bonus of carbon fiber grips) and it remains my everyday carry gun.

I have guns that have far greater collectable/intrinsic value but the Robar R9 is THE gun for me. This is crazy. I normally spend time, following the purchase of a gun "I can't live without", with contemplation of the next gun; not unlike many of us "gun nuts".

The Robar R9 does it for me and the only gun I see eclipsing this fact is the highly anticipated R45.

I agree.  Just chomping at the bit, waiting on the R45.  Knowing, now, that it's going to be an even longer wait, makes it harder to realize it will come.

You can bet your boots, though, it will be here, at some point.

I'm confused.  What is this about the Elite being discontinued?  The Rohrbaugh site lists for the R9: Standard, Stealth, and Stealth Elite.  it must be the Robar that's discontinued.  I never knew about that one.  There was an Elite with lots of handwork (in a wood presentation box) available for some time but that also seems to be gone.

There's going to be an R45?  Wow, I hope they issue a bionic hand to go with each one; I can just manage the recoil of the R9...

Rohrbaugh just has not kept thier literature up to date. The Robar is still around. The Elite and Elite Premium models are gone.

That's cool.  So Rohrbaugh is establishing a premium market by putting out limited editions.  I'm glad I was willing to spring for my Elite when I did...

What about the Serial Number 133 now on Gunbroker?  Is that really number 33 as the seller suggests or is it 133?  It looks like it has the old grips.

Both of the Elites on Gunbroker have disappeared

That could mean that the seller has no bids and has taken them off the auction. I haven't looked at the website. Was there time left on the auction or did it expire without any bids?

I have placed bids on gunbroker for guns that subsequently disappeared prior to the allotted time of the auction.

In some cases, the seller is an FFL and puts a disclaimer that they can sell the gun at any time prior to auction termination date.

One time, however, I was bidding on an L42A1 rifle, with original box, and it was a private sale. I was high bidder one moment and zap(!) it was gone. Never found out if seller sold it or had second thoughts.
