Title: Do Rohrbaugh's Really Exist?
Post by: alienbogey on December 18, 2009, 05:54:38 PM
Okay, it's a facetious thread title, but as far as I can tell Rohrbaugh's exist only on the internet.

I first stumbled across them while surfing about a year ago and, being interested, I started watching out for one to hold and handle.  Gun shops in multiple cities - no luck.  Gun shows - never on a table.  My local gun club - most haven't heard of it.  Pistol competitions - not one owner.

I went to the Rohrbaugh website and used their dealer search function - the nearest one is about 300 miles away.

I could probably save my shekels and buy one, but I've never bought a gun without at least being able to hold it first. In the meantime, I bought an LCP for a pocket pistol.

Rohrbaugh's - Fact or Fiction?  Inquiring minds want to know....

It is a FACT that they do exist.  I have had 11 of them and currently have several.  It is also a fact they are not many to be seen in the majority of gun shops (as you have found out) and gun shows.  I have only seen one at a gun show out of at least a 100 shows I have gone to.  The first time I laid MY hands on one was AFTER I had shelled out the cash for it and waited for it to ship.  Many have had that same first Rohrbaugh experience.

Welcome to the forum!  Buy yourself a R9 and don't look back.  They are great guns for what they are.  Feed them well and they will inturn serve you well.

Corey

Definitely FACT.  I bought mine in March, this year, having never seen one and my FFL had never heard of it either.  I did read alot on this forum, and decided I wanted one.  Never regretted it one bit and never a malfunction.

Read about it here, then contact Tom of the Irish Guard, here on the Forum.  He'll be glad to help you get the work of art, the Rohrbaugh R9; and welcome to the Forum.

Right next to me on the bed table.  It is real.  Bought it from impressions gained from this forum.  Damned glad.  Love it.  I carry it every day in a pocket or a high ride holster.  Wear it around the house.  Never any issue when using GD ammo.  (Can't find Silvertip.)  About a year now, and I like it more every week.

Highly recommended.  And the resale value is pretty high, so it is a minimal risk to get and resell.  But you won't.

My bank account says they're quite real (ouch), since I just bought one yesterday -- two-tone, serial #4039. Haven't even fired it yet. I am completely impressed by the quality of workmanship and the design philosophy, not to mention the terrific trigger pull. All in all, a first-rate piece of engineering and design.

whkrog.  Welcome to the Forum.  Congratulations on getting the R9.  You'll be glad you did, I'm sure.  Feed it only the recommended ammo here on the Forum and you'll be a happy camper.

alienbogey:

Welcome to the Forum!

Yes, the R9 is real. Here is one which I have carried since May 2004:

If you get in touch with Tom Watson ("theirishguard"), whose rotating banner can be found above, he can arrange for you to acquire the R9 of your choice for collection at the shop of your nearest FFL.

Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on selecting the finest pocket pistol yet produced!

Just checked my back pocket, Rohrbaugh's exists unless this is bad dream and im going to wake up soon. I spent a lot of time and research (see my previous posts) and could not be more happier with R9s purchase from Tom Watson. For the last month is has been my carry gun 95% of the time and expect it will be indefinitely.  Take the Rohrbaugh plunge....

It must depend where you are in the country...

My local gunshow has them everytime.  My local gun shop has one (or maybe two) in the case right now.

There are a number of them on gunbroker.com right now.

And -- the Irish Guard always seems to have a bunch!

Yes Virginia, there is a Rohrbaugh!

It seemed unlikely five years ago that we would be looking at no. 4000 and change. That speaks well for the product with almost a cult following  that is most certainly at the enthusiast level.

Just wondering what the count is on the .380?

Message to thew guy who can't find an R9 locally: Proximity doesn't matter. Order one from Tom Watson and have him send it to your local FFL

Tom has become a friend and I have bought guns from him despite the fact that he is in Texas and I am in Vermot.

There is no finer man in this forum, in my view, and Tom will take care of your R9 needs with requisite passion and desire to satisfy his customer's needs.

With all the recommendations that theirishguard receives I would have no problem ordering one from him; but I am hesitant to spend $1K+ on a pistol that I haven't at least handled and fondled.

I'll just keep on keeping my eyes out for one; in the meantime my P7 for main carry and LCP for pocket carry will have to do.

Just for the record in case it's of any help, I ordered the R9 shown above in 2002 just after reading an article, with photograph, of the prototype which had just been unveiled at SHOT 2002. I waited two years for it to arrive.  No regrets -- absolutely no regrets. And I'm not the only one around here who has purchased their R9 sight unseen. My advice: "Get ya' one." After all, it's almost Christmas. Speaking of which, have a merry one!  8)

It's your decision, of course.  However, in the meantime, you're missing the experience of a great little pistol.

I bought a .380 totally sight unseen. Not only had I never seen one, but no one in this neighborhood had ever even heard of one! When I did read of one I started doing some research and soon discovered this forum. That was all it took! I also found Tom Watson's name showing up almost as often as the pistols. That was enough! I called Tom and bought a .380 (which I dearly love!!). Three weeks later I got a R9s from him. Anyway, my advice is to buy the gun. You'll be very glad you did.   Gene     ps Where the hell is my R45.  Please

Maybe someone on this board lives in your area in which maybe they would let you "take a test drive".....

I too bought my first R-9 sight unseen...   ;)

In fact, I started this forum before ever laying my hands on an R-9.

If you read this forum, look at the pics, and can handle the price -- and still think you want one -- its highly unlikely that you will be disappointed.

Excellent point made by kjtrains. I have sent my $100 deposit to Tom Watson and I have no idea what the R45 will look like nor the cost.

I think members in this forum will agree that Rohrbaugh products are superior and it is germane, for those in the know, to make this leap of faith despite that the earliest we will even know what the R45 looks like will be at the SHOT show held next month.

Ummmm... While the R-45 is "in the works," it will definitely NOT be shown at SHOT.  Sorry folks -- they are not that close yet.

I completely agree, I had to see one first before I was going to shell out that kind of cash.  Here in MN there were two dealers that carried a Rohrbaugh, one is an authorized dealer and the other is secondary market.  good luck finding one.

We are pretty lucky here in Jacksonville, FL I guess. The Authorised Dealer on the Rohrbagh web site has (2) and another company here has (5). They have standing orders from Rohrbaugh. So about every 2-3 months or so they get (6) more in.
