Title: Ser.#1303 R9 ?
Post by: fgunnr on September 25, 2009, 03:30:06 PM: I purchased this new. I am sure someone can guess the date from the serial #. It was probably in 2004 or 2005 I am guessing.

I fired a couple of mags thru the gun when i purchased it and it has not been shot since then. Is the spring Ok or does it need to be replaced before I start carrying it?

Post by: yankee2500 on September 25, 2009, 07:36:30 PM: If it is 04 or 05 the spring should absolutley be replaced and even if it was 08 I would replace the spring, it's $5 and your life is worth a whole lot more than that.

Post by: tracker on September 25, 2009, 08:06:11 PM: I certainly agree with the spring change; if nothing else than a prudent practice the factory produced a different, closed end spring after your gun's birth date, I think.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to disassemble and lube it, especially if you didn't clean it after your last range visit.

Post by: ccoorreeyy on September 30, 2009, 04:03:58 PM: Since you bought it new you have the fired cases with it. The envelope the cases are in has a date on it that it was test fired. That is as good as "born" date you will get.

She told me that they always make announcements of new guns at the Shot show. I do not remember if they announced one last year though. She said they sometimes go 2 years without announcing.

Thats what I had figured originally but didn't know if there was "another" reason. New slides are a little "beefier" in the sides of the slide as far as thickness in some areas.

At any rate...have fun with it, you will like the pup!
