I went by the shop and picked up one of the extensions to try
on my pup. I put it on at the shop and carried the pup for about 7hrs, and didn't notice any differance. When I got home I fired 25rds with it on, feels good and it improves grip, the gun functioned perfect with it on. 21rds were old WWB and 4 were Hornady Critical Defense, all 115gr.

Let me know your thoughts, good, bad or otherwise ;D
Remember they are going to be black anodized.

Can't wait, I was the first to see them tonight, does that mean I get mine first. LOOKS GREAT!
Thanks for all the work. Let us all know how we go about ordering and paying for them.
-
John. Looks really good. Does the extention have a little groove in it where the mag release rests? I like it.
When can we get 'em? ;D
-
Really looks nice. I want some for my pup. How much do you think they will cost?
-
There is not a groove, nor was there one in the straight one from IDM but I was going to see if one could be added without being too much of a hassel.
They were going to order the material today to make the rest of them, and said it should be in next week. after I get the parts from the shop I have to get them to the platers and have them anodized. Probably another couple of weeks.
John

John. Sounds good. Thanks.
-
Dang that looks real sweet! Can't wait to place an order.
Thanks for all your hard work on getting these made.
-
I reckon those are mighty nice, I'll be ordering some too!
Let us know when available so we can place an order.
Mine is a stealth model, any black ones gonna be coming?

"Remember they are going to be black anodized"
(Had missed that first time around)

I, too, would like a couple of black ones.

I got my pup from Tom last April. It is everything I expected in a quality firearm but I felt it needed a magazine extension for a better grip.
I could not find any (IDM included). So I had some made up and they fit the bill for me.
So when I came across this post and saw the activity and time its been taking (same thing happened to me) I would like to offer any help or advice I can offer.
After trying several prototypes for fit and finish I finally was able to get the right combination.
If for any reason you can't get these completed in reasonable time or cost I could contact my supplier and see if they are interested in making a batch.
Here are some pictures of my extensions.

Welcome to the forum, BiMa; that is a very close copy of Bryce's hooked model except the slot on the back and that appears to be an improvement.
-
BiMa. Welcome to the Forum. Nice looking extension.
-
BiMa, welcome to the group. Where were you a few months ago. ;D I'm in the home stretch now, the material was ordered and will be here next week, and they will get started on them as soon as it arrives. Then it's off to be anodized, I think they should be ready to ship in two weeks.
If anyone is intrested in having the Robar NP3 finish put on let me know,(it's not cheap) I called Robar and they said it would be $10 per unit and it didn't matter how many pcs. the price would not go down for a larger quantity.

John. Good update. Two weeks! Excellent.
-
John, decided I needed 4 instead of the 2 I originally asked for. Please let us know when, where, and how much as soon as you can. And thanks to you for all the effort you've put out getting these for us! Gene

I think the curves on this one look much better. This might not effect grip but aesthetically these look better than the all silver ion the first post.
I meant this with respect to all involved and do not intend to harsh anyone.

Here is the extension in black (ala Sharpie). If there are any changes to be made they will need to be done now. I need to know what everyone thinks before I put any more money into this, I don't need a hundred of these for paperweights.

Even though I am familiar with the IDM design and it may be more pleasing to the eye I think that your rendition on the left will give more positive tactile control. The thick bottom and an apparent slightly longer extension should be more stable in the hand. You shouldn't have any problem selling these and thank you for your extraordinary efforts.
-
John. I like what you have. I agree with tracker, your work on this is outstanding.
-
As I told Yankee, I gave away my IDM mag extensions with an R9 I sold some time ago. For me, there was no appreciable advantage or accuracy gained with the mag extensions and I hated the disproportion of the mag extension (aesthetically).
This is my opinion and I make no claim as to having the right answer as opinions will vary. I do support Yankee in his quest to find out if there is a market as he (rightfully) does not want to commit to a production run without sincere interest and I wish Yankee well in this pursuit.

I have gone through the post titled Mag Extension Intrest, and talleied the replies. There were 39 members expressing intrest in 78 of the hooked and 10 of the straight extensions.
This post has been viewed 343 times. I have no way of knowing how many of the 39 responders have viewed this post, but there has not been a lot of feedback, and I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
I think the only way I can afford to proceed, is to take orders with payments. I don't want to lay out a few thousand dollars and find out the 39 people who replied are no longer intrested. :(
I will start a thread for orders and go from there.

Good idea and best wishes for a positive outcome whichever direction you take.
-
John--they look great!! I placed my order and paid via paypal.
thanks!!!
-
FB. Welcome back.
Thanks, I didn't leave just sitting behind the curtain.
I must have missed it but what is the price and paypal account, I will order and pay now as well. If I had my preference I would like to see some groves in the arch of the extension.
-
FB. Order info is in the Classifieds. John's paypal account and the price. Thanks.
-
John, I think the extension that you created look very sweet. Yes they are different than IDM's, but that is cool and is the way it should be.
Will you offer them in plain un-anodized aluminum and if so, will the price differ?
Again thanks for all your time, effort and money spent to make this happen!

How thick are your extensions side to side? Will you offer them in plan unanodized aluminum and if so, will the price differ?

Kannuist, Thank you and everyone else for the positive comments.
The extensions are 11/16 wide
They will be available in the black and a clear anodize which is the aluminum look. The anodize protects the aluminum from oxidation, and if you rub your hand or clothes on uncoated aluminun it will leave a black reidue.

Looks great John ! Thanks for all of your work putting this together.
I would also like to see a little groove / slot added where the magazine release rests. That's the only thing I'd change.
I'll be sending payment for an order shortly.
If it's not too much trouble, can you post a picture of the bottom?
Thanks again !

junior, I think Fat Boy wanted grooves on the gripping surface
(curved area) But to answer your request, there is going to be a slot for the mag catch, like the factory base plate. I can not provide a pic now as I don't have one with the slot now.
I will be going to the shop in the morning to make all final tweeks.
John
-
John. Thanks for getting in the slot for the mag catch.
-
Thanks for getting the slot added John, and no problem on the pics.

All the adjusting and tweeking is done, the units are being run and should be completed the first part of next week.
Then they go to be anodized, which is a five day turn around time.
So far the black units are bieng ordered at a two to one ratio over the clear anodize.
Anyone who wants the clear anodize needs to place an order now, because I do not plan on doing a lot of extra clear ones.
Thanks to all who have ordered.
John
-
John. Thanks for the update. Just a thought; are you going to keep some on hand for future orders?
-
I will have some left to sell, because I had to make a larger order than the member intrest to get the price were it is.
I may list them on Gun Broker, but will have to raise the price to cover the fees.
John
-
You will probably get inquires on these for months to come as new members come on board. I know it's hard to keep inventory though.
-
Jojm: Wow . Terrific. I'll need 4 for my R9s -- been wondering about these ever since I purchased the pistol. Just post the wherewithals (and any gratuities requested).
And thank you so much for doing the research and legwork.
-
whkrog. John's order information is posted in the Classifieds. Post your order there. Thanks.
-
kj, I'm going to have to put you on the payroll for your work on here. ;D
Did you get much of the snow? I got about 5". It's just not right getting snow in NC, I moved here to get away from snow. :(
John
-
John. I keep seeing these folks wanting the extensions and thinking they might miss putting their order in.
We got 6 1/2 inches of snow. It's very unusual for us to get this much. I can see why you wouldn't want any. :) :)
-
kj.Thanks, I appreciate it. Keep up the good work. ;D
I have not had the time to get on here as much lately as I had been.
John
-
Will do, John. Thanks!
-
I like them and have ordered, John. Anodized makes total sense, and the black is great.
The sweeping curve design is also nice, and very aesthetically pleasing.
John, thanks again.
