Title: New From Ga.
Post by: fastgun1962 on January 27, 2010, 11:36:57 AM
Hello from Cumming Ga. I am new to the Rohrbaugh. I purchased a what I think to be R9S with sights I think. What I am being told. I purchase this little unit unfired used. But not sure if it is indeed a R9 or R9S.
Thanks for your help.

Congratulations on your purchase. Fine looking R9S!!! The R9 has no sights. The R9S, has sights. Here is a link to the factory page with a short explanation of the same:   click here (http://www.rohrbaughfirearms.com/products).  Most of the Rohrbaughs have sights.

fastgun:

Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on the R9s.

The Colt Mustang was my "24/7 piece" back in the day -- after the Walther PPK and before the NAA Guardian. Although mine is now a "safe queen," it is still one of my favorite handguns.

For some reason, the Mustang has always been a very accurate design for me. I remember one time back in the 80's a friend of mine purchased a Mustang on my recommendation and then came to me complaining that he couldn't hit a *&^% thing with it. We took the pistol out to the range he had consturcted behind his barn where he proceeded to prove his point at 25 yards. I examined the pistol, found nothing amiss, inserted a fresh magazine, and then managed to hit the "10 ring" on the first shot. Knowing to quit while I was ahead, I engaged the safety, handed the Mustang back to its owner, and said, "You may just need to practice a little more."

(I love moments like that.    ;D )

Apart from my reminiscence on the Colt Mustang, what really lurks in that box is a real "enigma" to me. [Pun intended, Enigma.   ;) ] As I understand it, circa 1928, which year is visible on the box along with the word, "Canadian," the Canadian Royal Mounted Police were issued the Colt New Service Revolver. But what is visible of the piece on the box does not look to me like this CNSR:

I'm stumped.

Enigma:

Bring booze -- preferably a single malt of some kind. I forgot to stock up before the big snow hit last night and my supply is perilously low. I may soon have to turn to that organic Chardonnay stuff I keep in the wine rack for "Herself."   8)

Richard, when stocking up on single malt, try a bottle of Bushmills 21 year old single malt. It's so good that it comes in a dove tailed wood box. Herself might even want to try some, which she can trade for... ;) ;D    Tom

Tom:

Great advice! Bushmills 21 is a gift from the Lord to a troubled world. (If Enigma doesn't get here with the requested provisions before the sun crosses the yardarm, I'll have to crank up the four-wheel drive and skid into town.   ;D) )

In from the cold and properly provisioned.

May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven
half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

NO prob!...and yes "Bushy 21" is good stuff but MaCallan is even better!...unfortunately costs an arm and a leg so I only buy that stuff on cruise ships and duty free when travelling.

The only blend I like is the Johnnie Gold label...I think it even has more "character than Blue. Unfortunately, all I get is Blue for Xmas and Bdays...but eh...whos complain'in...

Now if you ever want to talk coffee!....Start a thread! That beast you see over there in the corner is a San Marco that I had to have after returning from Italy...I just couldn't drink "americano' anymore!

OK....Enough hijacking!...Back to the Georgia guys thread!

Knowing my luck...They are probably all empty... 8)

Wife took that pic a while back and sent it to one of my army buds saying I had a drinking problem...atleast my bud said "doesn't appear so yet"...

Well, I hope, for your sake, they're not empty.  That would be terrible, for sure.  Then again, if you do have a drinking problem, it could be a good thing.  I'm sure you don't, though.   :)    :)

Great looking kitchen, Enigma! I showed the photographs to Joyce and now she wants to renovate the kitchen at Critter Creek -- something about granite countertops.

(Thanks a lot. It would appear that my weekend retreat is about to become a weekend worksite.   :-/ )

The Macallan is great.  I've only bought the 15 year; but I was treated to a shot of 25 year....HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My personal fav's would be: Lagavulin 16, Macallan (15 and up), Glenmorangie, and Bushmills 16.

I thought Johnnie Black was pretty smooth, too, Tom, but after these posts it looks like I am going to have upscale my cabinet a bit.

Why..? You can get up to 20 bottles of MaCallan into a standard military foot locker! ;D

Everything else is moot...

That is exactly what I did in the Navy while in port at Malta. I have never seen single malt scotch as cheap as it was there. That cruise box was handled very gently coming off the ship.

The last time I checked, that Johnnie Walker Blue Label was bringing about $175.00 a 750 ML bottle around here in East Tennessee -- and worth every bit of it. Reminds me, though, of a time back in the '70s while working in a certain "dry" country not here to be named when I had to lay out about that much for a meager little pint of RED Label.  ::)

And worth every penny of it; I would have given that much in Saudi Arabia when I was there for six months. The only people who had a steady supply were people who had their own lab equipment, the Australian Embassy, and the FAA representative.
