I am down to 2 mags of silver tips. I like to fire 2 mags a month thru the R9S. Are the WWB a viable substitute to the silver tips for reliability confirmation?
thanks

Some here on the Forum have used the WWB successfully. I have not tried them, although do have a box. If you don't mind Winchester Silvertips, old stock, you can find some on GunsAmerica; new stock on GunBroker.com.

Winchester White Box work fine in my pup and are a much cheaper practice round. Try them and see how your pup likes them.

I've put two or three boxes of WWB through my R9, zero problems. So... there's one more data point, for whatever that's worth.

It's worth a lot. Good to know and thanks for sharing!

Let me ask this another way. If WWB is reliable thru my R9S does that mean that the Silvertips will also be reliable without shooting up what I have left of the silvertips.
thanks

not necessarily---firing your R9 with any ammo will let you practice how it feels and get used to the recoil
If all your silvertips are from the same lot number and the ones you've fired have had no problems, that typically means the rest of the lot should be fine as well--some manufacturers even recommend you shoot all of a box of ammo except a mag full and then you know that box is fine--the remaining ammo from that box is what you carry. Then shoot something else at the range--- I use WWB at the range and my R9 eats them up with no problems.
The only problems I've had have been with Hornaday Critical Defense--some of the primers are too hard to fire (there's a thread on here where a bunch of others have had the same problems with HCD---they are using whatever primers they can get during this ammo shortage and some of them are too hard for our R9s---they fire with no problems in my Hks )
I use Gold Dots for carry in the R9 as I can't find Silvertips---eats up the GDs too.

If you have not had any problems with the box of Silvertips you have, just me now, I would save what you have left for carry, the two mags, and try the WWB.
There's a new post on the Forum from a new member (WyoShooter) saying he has heard that Winchester will begin producing Silvertips again starting April 15th. That's fairly good news. That means, probably reaching stores in May, as Gene (birdman) has noted, receiving a ship date revised to May 7.
That was on .380's. Hope that's on all Silvertip production!
