I got my new Robar R9, cleaned it, oiled it and went to break it in.
Report- 20/20 Winchester silvertips fed and fired.
14/15 Hornady Criticl defense fired, 1 light strike.
When I went to clean it, there were lots of tiny metalslivers. The only wear I can see is inside the frame, between the rails. I dont see any unusual wear on the barrel.
Is this normal? ="http://picasaweb.google.com/108433572403729878011/Firearms?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_fSEogblFl5Q/S4SAwafQggE/AAAAAAAAACA/T6laZBh0X08/s160-c/Firearms.jpg" width="160" height="160" style="margin:1px 0 0 4px;"></a></td></tr><tr><td style="text-align:center;font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:11px"><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/108433572403729878011/Firearms?feat=embedwebsite" style="color:#4D4D4D;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none;">Firearms</a></td></tr></table>

The wear on the frame looks about right but that is a lot of metal detritus. I would stick with the Silvertips and not use Critical Defense; too many primer issues.
-
That is a lot of metal debree. I agree on the Silvertips. Stick with what works.
-
I am going to run another 20 rds or so through it and clean again. I am hoping that was first time wear in debris

I know that sometimes it's really hard to see what's what in a picture, but that area along the edge doesn't look so much like wear, but it appears to be galling.
And since galling is literally the gouging out of metal on the contacting surface, all that leftover metal also suggests that it's galling and not just "wear".
I would seriously think of sending it back to Rohrbaugh to at least have them look at it because machined surfaces are supposed to wear in and mate smoothly with each other, and galling is anything but that.

xray,
Based on my experience I think that's going to solve your problem. You may still find some (a lot less) after your second trip to the range but even if you do, the problem will be history after your third outing.
Congratulations on your new Pup. Good luck and keep us posted.
Regards, Quiet1

xray, Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your New R-9. The wear you are seeing is normal and will limit itself. Keep it clean , feed it quality Ammo and it will serve you well. Dan

I believe I have previously welcomed you to the Forum, but not permit me now to do so.
I agree with Dan's comments. And in that regard, the material at this link to Chris's FAQ site may be of interest:

1. the provided link looks exactly like my wear pattern- makes me feel alot better about it.
2. Range trip today - 20/20 Winchester Silvertips. 19/20 Hornady critical defense, one took 2 trigger pulls to bang. No more of that ammo for the pup
3. Far fewer "shavings" at today's cleaning. Under a jewelers loop they looked more like Robar coating flakes than metal shavings. I rubbed them every way possible and none felt sharp or pointed.
No other wear patterns or issues...other than 40 rds in the pup started to feel pretty sharp recoil towards the end!! ;D

Sounds much better! Thanks for the update.

check your grip screws to make sure they are tight.

Good point!
