Guess I'm a wuss but the only ammo I enjoy shooting thru my R9s is Aguilla I. Q. and my stock of that is unfortunately limited by the Fed ban on importation of it. I can shoot the I. Q. (65 gr.) all afternoon but 6-12 rounds of any other is all I want. Can anyone offer a suggestion? The I. Q. will continue to be my carry ammo but I'd like to be able to practise more.

I could count on one hand how many times I have seen .9mm Aquila IQ mentioned on this forum for use in the R9 but if it works for you, so be it.
-
It works fantastically, extremely accurate and feeds 100%. Yes, it sometimes keyholes but I am of the opinion that a round keyholing into someone's chest is likely to ruin their day. I will more than gladly buy any or all of the 9mm Aguilla I. Q. anyone might want to get rid of. Now back to my question, anyone know of a low recoil ammo for the R9?
-
WWB and Remington UMC are relatively low recoil but I wouldn't use UMC in any case. It seems to me that low recoil should just be one of several factors if that is your wish but generally low recoil equals light load.

I've been shooting the Hornady CD and they're not rough at all. After I ported mine, they were really easy to shoot!

Mark. Sounds like you've had good results from the Hornady CD. Any notice of hard primers?
-
Nope. I must have purchased a good lot!

That's good. I have a box and hope my lot is good as well.

I thought I recalled reading a post by someone on here that Hornady was addressing that problem?

I remember that and also that Hornady was getting an R9 to do some testing. Haven't heard anymore.
-
Nothing has changed on the primers which are the problem with the R9. They will use the harder S&B primers if they can't find Winchester or other suitable ones. I was told that they bought the R9 for testing but as of a month ago they hadn't done anything with it.

Hornady may think that the R9 is low volume ammo sales for them, so not in any hurry to delve into the issue; just a thought.
-
That is a valid thought but not quite the case. They have tested the R9 and had found the same issues we have with it. My source said the light strikes combined with the hard primer not only caused FTFs but caused the primer shavings to flow back into the firing pin recess.
Their present solution is that they have seated the primers slightly differently so that they are more sensitive. He also suggested that our firing pin springs could be stronger so I suggested they contact Rohrbaugh.

Good update. Glad to know they have worked on the issue. :)

Thanks for the responses. I want to shoot a large volume of rounds and that is the reason for wanting the low recoil. I'll continue to carry the Aguilla I. Q. for self defense. Any other rlow recoil suggestions? The Hornady primer shavings comment makes me reluctant to use them. I don't want to do anything to compromise the reliabilty of my R9 which currently is 100%.
No one has any Aguilla you want to get rid of?
