Just picked up my first R9s pup and have been giving it lots of pats and hugs!! It seems very well behaved. Took it down and got it back together without much problem. (Having big hands certainly helps.) I've been lurking here picking up lots of great info while waiting for its arrival...thanks to all of you!! Can't wait to get to my gun club tomorrow and see how it performs.
Only problem...my pup was shipped to my friend's gun shop with another litter mate. Consecutive SN's, identical twins. I was reluctant to leave it behind. I've always had dogs and never less than two at a time since they enjoy each others company. Maybe I'll drop by the gun shop later today...

go put it on layaway...!

Yo park245,
Congratulations on your new pup-py. Welcome to the forum.
Re: the sibling pup-py - - - GO FOR IT! :) ;) :) You'll have double the happiness, double the pleasure and double the fun. (Or maybe it would be a pup-py for "Mama" too.) ;D
Regards, Quiet1

park. Congratulations on getting the R9s. Amazing little wonder. It will be good to visit it's sibling. Enjoy the range session.

Congratulations on your new purchase. These pistols are really great shooters and are made to precise tolerences.
I recommend that you put a bandaid on your trigger finger when you initially shoot it. It is not difficult to handle, but can bang the trigger finger in the trigger guard.
Enjoy your R9.

Park, please let us know if you get the other twin. And welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Gene

Park:
Welcome to the Forum and to the Club! A certain amount of fondling the R9 is expected for new owners. (Some of us old timers haven't really stopped the practice, to tell the truth of the matter. 8) )

Finally got my new pup to my gun club today. Fed it 115 Gold Dots initially which it gobbled like a champ. It was still hungry so I switched to 115 WWB. No problemo! Hungry little sucker! Good advice on wearing a bandaid on your trigger finger...too bad I didn't take it :-[. But I found that the trigger action was so smooth that moving to the finger pad from the first joint worked great!
Earlier this week I took an NRA Personal Defense in the Home course and used my 9mm Sig 226 Elite for the shooting part of the course. It is a terrific gun and my preferred HD piece. Knocking off 150 rounds in rapid fire mode is a piece of cake. Wouldn't want to try that with the pup! If I can draw an analogy, the Sig is a Rolls Royce and the pup is a Morgan, the tough, tightly strung little English sports car. They have the same pedigree, are both high quality products, and each in its own way is at the top of the charts. I'd take the Rolls for a long trip, but the Morgan is a hell of a ride on a winding, hilly road!
Looks like I'm going to be doing a lot of driving this year! Thanks to all of you for your advice and praise for Rohrbaughs!

park. Excellent range outing. Continue to enjoy the little wonder. :)

Park,
Glad that you had a great range session with your R9. The SIG is a great gun and more suitable for HD use, but the R9 is an exceptional carry gun for up close SD issues.
I only hope that I never have to use any of my firearms in a self defense situation, but I am always prepared.

Fifth outing today with the pup. I've only been firing about 25 rounds per outing but have noticed improvement each time out. Shot a 10 round group at 7 yards with 9 rounds in a 3" circle, best I've done so far. The pup has a sharp bite but you get used to it and can concentrate on accuracy as opposed to anticipating the "crisp" recoil. Another gun club member who really is an expert handgun marksman gave me a compliment and said I should show up for the backup gun plate shoot. Not sure if my pup is ready for its first show but I'm thinking about it... :)

park. Great fifth outing. Continue to enjoy! :)

Park,
Welcome. I enjoyed your automobile analogy. Sig and Glocks are great and I concur that they are far better for shooting multiple boxes with greater ease and comfort than the R9. However, nothing beats the R9 for concealability and you are, after all, shooting a serious cartridge in a small package.
The only downside to buying consecutive S/N guns is that they retain their value more if they are made into "safe queens", if that is the right terminology.
You don't impress me as a guy who wants to keep the consecutive R9s away from the range. Don't know if you are still considering the second R9 but those are my thoughts.

I visit my pup's sibling from time to time. The kennel owner is taking good care of it and promised me that he would find a good home and I told him to pass along my name and number to the new owner. Maybe we'll get the pups together for an outing in the future.

That is good. Will be nice for the siblings to have a visit now and then. :)
