Sent my R9s off to Bob Cogan, at Accurate Plating & Weaponry, for porting, checkering (front and rear straps), sights milled, and brushed chrome plating.
Just received it back today.
I hope the photo link works.
This is a sweet, beautiful piece of engineering, made even better.

I cannot tell you all enough, about how knowledgeable and helpful Bob and his office manager Jason have been.
They have also 'remade' a SIG P226 for me.
They're the best there is. Period.

whkrog. One excellent piece of work, for sure. It was worth the wait, though, hard to do. Now, enjoy! :)
-
More pics please!!! Closeups would be nice ;D
-
Very cool gun with some great mods for sure! I like it, I like it alot!
-
Nicely "remade" Pup!!
May I ask what the ballpark bill was??

About $600.00 for all the work, and well worth it.

Now that is a double WOW, for sure; brushed chrome plating, you say. Excellent.
-
Beautious close up Pup pics!!! 8)
Thank you for them!!
-
Now, I just have to keep telling myself, "green's on the rear sight, red's on the front" ...
;)
-
Very nice!
So how does it shoot? details, details. Any significant difference in recoil?
I love the milled sites.
-
SWEET!!!
Like to know about the recoil as-well...............
-
My experience with the Holy Rohrbaughs is that the recoil is much less.

whkrog,
The pup looks awesome, and the close up pics are excellent
The only thing I would change is the mag extension, and the grips.
I think the silver extension would be my choice.

I agree the silver extention looks really good with the hard chrome frame. I like the extreem grips better too but with the checkering on the frame it not needed like it is without the checkering.

I'll agree with the silver extension, as well. Complete one tone. It's still a double wow, though. :)

Guys,
I have one question though on porting a gun. Everybody talks about how a longer barrel produces more ft/lbs of power by being able to burn more powder before the bullet reaches the end, would this not be counter productive and produce less energy?
-
Yes it does. I lost about 35 feet per second when I tested a ported one verses a non ported one. (with 147gr gold dots) Not enough loss to bother me because it did reduced the recoil.
-
Very good,
Does not seem significant - thanks!
-
I agree that the silver extension would be better (going to order some...) -- got the other ones before I decided to have the work done on the R9s.
Am looking into to some custom grips, too.
I will not be able to take this out to the range until late this week -- I will post a range review as soon as I return.
As for the porting reducing energy of the round -- this is true. Bob Cogan's said to me that in his chronograph measurements, velocity on most pistol rounds is reduced less than 10%; that's likely still good enough for the best concealed carry weapon there is, in my opinion(particularly if the lower recoil and attendant muzzle flip makes multiple shots on target easier).
-
How does the R9 with it's barrel length fair as far as moving the 9mm bullet fast enough for good expansion?
I'm sure there are many tests on this from a lot of you guys, It's just that I'm new and have not figured out how the search function works quite yet. :P
-
Glenn. Here's a link for 9mm bullet expansion from a Kel Tec, 3.1 inch barrel; The R9 has a 2.9 inch barrel so should be close.
