New to forum and recently purchased the R9 and love it..i really like the site and reading through some of the posts. I see a lot of people inquiring what ammo is best, well i just want to add a little info... Took mine to the gun club and put it through a work out. fired Fed Hydro shok 124gr JHP, and Hornady 147gr Tap FPD. Both worked fine.. The Fed HS comes out at about 1120 FPS and the Hornady is about 975FPS...Hornady a little better to control for rapid fire...Being a retired police officer and Military police instructor...You have to consider where the bullet goes and ends up. The Tap ammo is designed not to blow through the body, High Velocity ammo if it don't hit bone can go through and possibly hit a by stander. My practice is during summertime when people wear lite clothing I carry Tap Ammo.. Winter Time with thick jackets to shoot through I carry the HS or GD or ST

Sergeant_Major,
Welcome to the forum. You can find a lot of discussion here regarding bullet weight and I favor 147 grain; Hornady TAP and Golden Sabre.
I have owned five (5) R9s and have had issues with some of them. Usually failure to fire or failure to eject. In my experience, (borrowed from this forum), the 147 grain works the best

Welcome Sergeant_Major! Relatively new here myself and have found a wealth of information and members ready to help with questions.
Ahhh...when I was in college I had a girlfriend who hailed from Buffalo. That was a long time ago but the good memories are still there!
Thanks for sharing your ammo experience.

Sergeant Major:
I welcomed you to the Foum in another thread. Allow me here to repeat that welcome and, considering your "handle," to thank you for your service to our country.

Sergeant_Major,
Had not noticed before that you hailed from Buffalo. A good town to which I have made several business trips. However, what is up with New York State gun laws?
I moved from NJ (I thought the worst gun state in the country) to the Adirondaks in 2006. I was advised that I could not take possession of the handguns I had already gone through background check, (in NJ), and I could not even apply to own a handgun until I had lived in NYS for a year!
I left after 9 months, moved east and Finally got the right to CCW. I will never again live in a state in which
I cannot legally carry a gun.
