It seems a lot of people tend to prefer the lower serial number guns? I was going to buy new, but what's the deal?

They have improved over the years; if you are a shooter buy a new one and if you are a collector buy the lower serial number.
Reasonable minds may differ with this opinion.

Jason, my advice would be to get a new gun and then just look and learn at your leisure. The more time you spend learning the better able you'll be to make decisions. Lecture over and worth every cent I charged for it. More importantly, please be welcome to the best gun forum, best people, and best pocket pistols anywhere. Gene

Welcome to the group.
All the attention to the low numbers is because the Rohrbaugh plant moved from Farmingdale, NY to Deer Park, NY. Anything made now has Deer Park on the slide, making the older Farmingdale marked guns a collectors item of sorts.
If your looking for a carry gun get a new one as suggested by tracker and birdman. If they grow on you and you want a Farmingdale, welcome to the hunt. ;D

Thanks for the info. I have been carrying a seecamp .32 for 18 years DAILY. Looking forward to to my 380 but two year wait. I've always liked the looks of the rohrbaugh, even if it is a little large compared to what I'm used to.

First of all, welcome to the Forum!
I am one of those who owns and carries a "Farmie." Although mine has shown no vices for the past six years, there have been certain subtle improvements in the R9 over the years, as Tracker has noted. Buy a new one. You will then own one of what I consider to be the finest pocket pistol to be found.

Only been here on the forum for a handful of weeks, great folks with serious 411.
Bought a new pup and couldn't be happier. After about a week started showing signs of obsession and my hunt began for a Farmingdale. I'm a darn good hunter as I collect other things also but have turned up nothing at this point.
The "shooter" vs. "collector" advice posted previously is my opinion also. You will love this gun. It's smooooooooth!

Yep, buy a new one. More meat around the pin, updated springs in mag & recoil, updated extractor & extractor spring, tougher finishes, and a factory warranty make the new guns a better choice for shooting / cary. Also there are CRAZY people out there willing to pay higher prices for a used Farmingdale than a new Deer Parker would cost you. I happen to fall into that group My carry gun is a newer model but as collectors I love the early Farmingdale models.

Stealth or two tone for first one? I'm thinking two tone then if really like it can send it off to get coated later?
Also what's the order time or should I go through arego on guns America?

Jason -- welcome to the forum. I have a seecamp 32 and a 380 and 2 R9 Stealths. The SC 380 has a bite to it. I was lucky and found a NiB 380 for $1000 on Gunbroker a few months ago. The SC is a great gun but the 9mm of the R9 is hard to beat and the recoil ( to me at least) is even less than the SC 32. I like the Stealth as I like one tone guns but both are nice.
A great place to buy a new R9 is from Tom at the Irish Guard-- he's a member on this site and will treat you right.

For EDC a new model is probably the way to go!!
I am a bit of a Farmie lover,having been "involved" with the pup from the start of the forum..Just like the history,and the dang things shoot as well as my Deer Parker!!
There have been subtle changes to the pup over time but not so much advertised as just noticed by the owners.
I am looking real hard at a Robar model for my EDC,but the change for it is not light for sure!!

I still think the size of the seecamp will make for more committed everyday carry, but look forward to trying out the rohrbaugh. Going with a new two-tone to start with.
