I have had my Rohrbaugh for probably about 2 years or so... maybe more, maybe less. I found it when I was on the search for an excellent concealed carry weapon. Although the price was a little high, I felt that it offered the best "bang for the buck"... pun intended.
I have other guns that were purchased with an intent to carry, but most of them get left behind because they are ultimately too big, bulky, and heavy.
My question is this: Is the Rohrbaugh the ultimate concealed carry weapon? It certainly has the most firepower in the 9mm cartridge. It is certainly small enough to be easily carried without any gripes. Limiting to cartridges of .380 or larger, what are the other pistols out there that can be called ULTIMATE CONCEALED CARRY PISTOLS?
I already have the Rohrbaugh, just wondering if there is something else I should look at to add to my collection.

Seecamp .380 ;)

I would say the R9 is the ultimate 9mm carry piece and the Seecamp LWS is the smallest 380 carry gun there are some 380s that are a little lighter. (but not much) If you are looking for something with more punch the Kahr PM40 is the smallest and lightest 40 caliber. In 45acp any of the name brand 3" barrel lightweight modes are good. As far as what you get for the money it's hard to beat the Kimber Ultras.

I agree with Florida CCW that the LWS 380 is the easiest to carry. The Kahr P380 is also easy to carry, very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Also available with night sights if that interests you. It is my favoite 380. You couldn't go wrong with either.

Here is where I am at the moment:
For .45 - I think something like a Colt CCO or Nighthawk T3 would be something that I would like to have. Officers sized frame with a Commander sized slide. I am not sold on the sub 4" barrels on the 1911 design.
For 9mm - besides the Rohrbaugh, I think you are going to have to go with something like the Kahr PM9, Glock 26, H&K p2000sk, XD9SC, etc. The size can not be compared to the Rohrbaugh, but they may be a little easier to carry than some of the other compact guns.
For .380 - Seecamp, of course. Ruger LCP, Rohrbaugh 380, Keltec P3AT, Kahr P380. NAA 380
I am sure there are more, but those are the ones that I have noticed and stand out to me.
Thanks for the continued discussion

In the 380 platform I like the Kahr based on having owned the LCP and LWS 380. The LCP is a good shooting gun for a very reasonable price. The Kahr is better shooting than the LCP and twice as much money, the Seecamp is the smallest but the most expensive and the worst of the three to shoot in terms of recoil.
I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II and love everything about it.
A pleasure to carry and great shooting, comes standard with all the bells & whistles that are options on many other 45s.
The Kahr PM 9 is much lighter and easier to carry than any of the other mentioned 9mm and you might as well go with the PM40 and get the benefit of the 40 caliber in the same size package.

I'm in agreement with the R9, Seecamp .380 and I'll add Seecamp .32; as for others, you have it covered well.
-
I (now) carry in order of increasing size (concealed, depending on my need).
Rohrbaugh R9S
Walther PPK/S
Walther PPS
H&K P30 or S&W 66
HK45
This doesn't count the 8 3/8" .44 Mag I carry in a shoulder holster for hunting!
I like my LCP, but, it doesn't have a home in the lineup. It isn't eating anything so it will remain with me.

Bob:
That's an impressive lineup, and Elmer Keith would certainly approve of that .44 Mag. for hunting occasions.
As for the LCP, it may be temporarily on the bench, but I'm like you -- if it isn't eating anything, I keep it. Lord save me, but my safe even contains a "mighty" Raven .25 won years ago as a door prize at a gun club function, shot once, cleaned, and stored away for reasons I can't explain . . . other than possibly "hoarding syndrome."

I am a revolver fan. Other than a 1911 I do not carry a semi auto UNTIL I bout the Rohrbaugh R9. That is all I carry now for the exception of out of town trips and then the R9 has a 340PD S&W as a partner.

I love my R9s but I'm also a Sig fan. Just noticed that they are coming out with a sub-compct 9mm, the P290. No price on it yet.

I too am a big Sig fan and the pistol looks good but a little heavy. My R9 weighed 18 oz. loaded with 7 - 115 gr, my PM9 weighs in at 19.7 oz. with 7 of the same rounds. Both of these are less than the Sig's empty weight. With the polymer frame I don't understand it.

One of the posts in the following says this will debut at the 2011 Shot Show.

Looks nice. I would bet they will sell a boatload of them.
The PPS sold way more than was expected, too. The wave of CCW permits is driving the whole segment.
-
The Sig weighs more than a Glock 26??
-
Over 20 oz isn't pocket carry IMO. May as well tote an HK P2000SK or Walther P99c in your pocket. Yes..I know..some people claim to be able to do so without anybody noticing they are carrying.....yeah....riiiiggght.
-
It looks like the Sig is a bout 24 +oz. loaded and the G-26 is about 26 +oz. loaded, but Sig missed the boat for a good CC gun at that weight.

I'm pretty sure SIG is going to "miss this boat" all the way to the bank.
One thing I've noticed about SIG lately is they are putting emphasis on shootability. They may not have the last word on every last spec but you will get a high quality piece that is arguably the most shootable in its class. This is true of the P238. It has great sights, no recoil, is very accurate and comes in lots of variations including lasers. But as has been said, the Seecamp is indeed smaller and will fit in some small back pockets the SIG won't. However, this SIG .380 is a 25 yard gun and the Seecamp .380 is a 5 yard gun. Personally, I do worry about that felon or terrorist that is 10 yards away and I like the confidence knowing I can put one in his head if I have to.
It all depends on how you define "ultimate" and "carry".

Yep! Too heavy!

I will have the new Sig in hand soon -- hopefully before SHOT. I am doing a review for Shooting Illustrated.

I agree. I have a couple of LWS 380's but find myself carrying the 9mm much more often because of shootability which gives me more confidence. I know lots of Seecamp lovers who carry their 32's as opposed to their 380's because they have more confidence they can better defend themselves with a 32 they know they can hit their target than a 380 which can be hard to put multiple shots on target.
My opinion only.

I just found out about the Sig P290 last night when I was looking at the Sig website. Nothing scares me more than the words "available for order soon." Can you say allocation?
For me, my Robar R9S is the gun I carry all the time. I have plenty of other guns but I will not compete with other forum members. I would gladly give up some weight and dimensions for the R45; but you already know that.

My thought is if I'm going to carry something that size and weight it will be at least 40 caliber and more likely 45 acp. The Kahr PM 40 and PM 45 are both comparable in size to the Sig and both are lighter.
It my be a great shooting gun but so is my Kimber Ultra CDP II and it only weighs 4.5 oz more and holds 7 shots of 45acp.
I wish Sig the best, but they wont be taking any of my money to the bank. ;D
