I just tried some 115 gr. Silvertips in my R9, and I had several light strikes, where it looked like the primer was barely touched, if at all. Most of the rounds fired properly, but this definitely rules out Silvertips for me in my R9. The gun was fully cleaned and lubed, and had only fired about 2 magazines before the first light strikes started happening.
I then fired all the "light strike" rounds in my PM9 with no trouble, and it left good, solid hits in the primers.
Anyone else encounter hard primers in Silvertips? Or could this be an issue of a weak hammer spring in my R9?
I'll only shoot Gold Dots in my R9 from now on. So far, it's the only thing that's been reliable.

I have never had any light primer strikes with any ammo, never had an FTF in my pup.

Never tried Silver tips.
I only use Gold Dots and never had a problem.
Just use whatever works best in your R9.

gbelleh. That's the key. Use what best suits your R9. Good luck.

Yeah, I was hoping to find a reliable alternative to the hard-to-find (at least around here) Gold Dots. But, I guess I'll stick to GD from now on.
I noticed that the front right grip screw had worked pretty loose. Can that contribute to light hammer strikes?

I would tighten it up and give it a try, but It should not affect it.
There is a spring and trigger bar under the right grip panel. If the grip screws comes loose it could cause a malfunction. i dont think it would cause a lite primer strike.

Right now Ammo-to-Go has gold dots 24.95 for 50 and Speer Lawman TMJ practice ammo for 12.95 for 50. The neat thing about the Speer Lawman is it's designed to exactly replicate the performance of the Gold Dots in a clean, inexpensive practice round. As a test I mixed a mag with these two rounds and every shot felt, and sounded the same. Lets you practice with what you carry at half the price.

Thanks for the tip. That's a good price. A bit cheaper than the last batch of Gold Dots I ordered online.
