This is my first forum post:
I've been trying to decide which R9S to purchase. In reading posts in the forum, I've read that the Stealth's slide will show wear after being holstered over a period of time. Is this true? If so, I guess I should be considering the Standard R9S.
Not quite on topic, but I've also read about the "Covert" R9S . . . is this just another name for the Standard or is this a separate pistol? FWIW, the Rohrbaugh Firearms page shows only the Standard and Stealth models, there's nothing about the Covert.
Thanks, Bill
-
Bill,
Welcome to the forum. The standard and the stealth are the only two models being offered by Rohrbaugh at this time.
-
Bill,
Welcome to the group.
I think any all black gun will show wear on the slide from being in and in & out of a holster.
-
Bill. Welcome to the Forum. Agree with both above remarks. Good luck with your decision on the R9. Enjoy the Forum.

Hi Bill! :) Welcome to the Forum!(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-forum/welcome.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
I had pretty much the same questions when shopping for the R9. If you look closely at the standard you will see that the frame lower now has the black finish as well. The slide and the lower at the front, near bottom, of the trigger guard are the areas most prone to holster wear. Some members will tell you that the Stealth's finish holds up pretty well, while others have a different opinion. I decided on the Stealth because I like the black finish. If it wears out, then I will send it to a custom shop or to Wilson, where they will make it black once more. If you decide to go with the Standard, which is cheaper, you can always send it off if you decide you want black. Just my (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-forum/2c.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php).

Good tips all, thanks! I'm still torn between the two guns, but when I make my purchase I'll be sure to post something in the forum . . . with pictures!

A couple of Dealers are offering what they call a "Covert". I do not know anything about the arangement with Rohrbaugh. Here is a listing on one.

About pistol finish wear when carrying... it's gonna' happen. Period.
Even stainless finished will get "polished up" a little, and on stainless pistols, there's still the grips (of whatever material) that will show wear over time.
I think a person is going to have to decide if they want to carry or collect, and I feel for those who need to decide.
I've got some I won't wear because of some assumed "collectability", and others I carry and don't worry if they get worn from the holster or even dropped.
I carry the Pup but thank goodness I haven't dropped it... yet. :o
As for wear, I can always send it back for refinishing if I just can't live with it showing some wear.
-
My first PUP was a stealth. Is started to show some signed of holster wear. I had it chrome plated by AP&W and this finish seems to be more durable. After refinishing it still shows some marks from being holstered, but i do carry this R9 a lot and in all conditions.

I do like it. That's what makes it so hard to choose between Robar and Cogan. ;)
-
I have two Cogan's. I am very happy with the work they did. I especially like the frame checkering. If i go with the NP3 finish, i would send it to Cogan and have them checker the front and back strap.
I may try the NP3 on my newest PUP. I am still undecided.
-
I guess one could send a gun to Robar for the insides and then to Cogan for the outside; that's a thought.
-
I wonder who would get the gun first Robar or Cogan?
-
For me, I would send it to Robar first, then to Cogan, however, I would call Cogan first and get his opinion.
-
Sound like a plan.
I will let you know how i make out when i am ready.
-
I've got one that may go the route of both; so whatever you do will be helpful to know. Thanks.

Bill:
First of all, welcome to the Forum!
As to preventing or minimizing wear to the finish of a handgun from repeated holstering, there is a one trick which works well -- Renaissance Wax applied both to the gun and to the holster, inside and out. Get a can and try it. You'll be amazed at how well it protects both gun and holster. I've used the stuff for years. As I see it, anything good enough for the NRA and British Museum collections is good enough for the contents of my gun safe.
Good luck with your choice. Whichever model R9 you select, you will have the finest pocket pistol yet designed.

does this product make the gun slide out of the holster easier?

does this product make the gun slide out of the holster easier?
I haven't noticed that. It just provides a protective barrier which helps to preserve the finish of any item to which it is applied. My experience has been that few products actually live up to the claims of those who purvey them. This is one of the few that do.
-
I may give it a try. Thank you Richard.
-
I'm thinking of doing the same. Richard had posted this some time ago, and I somehow misplaced the article. Now I'll order it so that doesn't happen again. Thanks from me as well.
-
I recently purchased some of the Renaissance Wax on Sir Richards recommendation and so far am quite pleased with the results.
-
That's nice to hear.
I always like to do my homework when it comes to my firearms.
-
I'll second that!

This appears to be the "Special Forces" model, which is not offered anymore.
-
I also agree with Dano, if you like the "black" look of the gun, go with the Stealth.
When the finish wears, simply refinish. Dano suggested Wilson for their "armor, tuff'" finish.
Another option is Robar and their "Rogaurd" finish.
Good Luck

From what i understand, the COVERT is a model made by the dealers. This is not a FACTORY model.
The dealer takes a standard model and sends it to WC and they apply their Armor-Tuff finish.
I could be wrong. Someone please correct me if i am.
-
Adam. You're right; not a factory model.
-
You wold be better off buying a standard and sending it to WC for their finish. This way you are not paying a double markup on this service.
-
Definitely would be cheaper, for sure!
-
I would like to see one done with Black Chrome, not for me but it my be an option for someone who wants a Black finish.
-
John
That is one og the finishes i am looking at from AP&W.
I am not in a hurry to get the next one customized.
I will post picks once it is completed.

Thanks for bringing me up to date.
That makes sense - a SF wannabe.
-
Yes indeed.
That is why they are selling for less than a SF.
-
Folks are trying to make too much on the SF's. I doubt if they're selling very well.
-
I agree.
You can always make one yourself. Its still not a FARMINGDALE! ;D
-
Good ol' American incentive for profit.
I forgot the word.
Help me out.
-
You said the magic word; FARMINGDALE! ;)
-
I would not consider a Deer Park discontinued model to be much more valuable than a standard model. they do not appeal to me.
Just my opinion!
-
I know; for me it's a Farmingdale; the addiction continues.
-
I was admiring the silver framed Farmingdale with the blue CF i just purchased from CWC.
I would love to purchase another silver framed with blue CF Farmie some day.
-
You've got the right idea. The want just gets bigger. :)
-
and more costly. ;D
I foud a local dealer with a Farmingdale R322. No CF grips though. $975.00.
Its just not what i wanted!
-
For me, it has to have the no "R" prefix; just something about the early ones. :)
-
I am not that point yet. Though I would be interisted in a silver framed no R prefix Farmie.
There is somthing about an all siver PUP that I love.
I am not crazy about the two tone.
I am not sure about all black? I may try that on my next project. I had a stealth that i had chrome finished.
-
I'm an all silver one too. Both mine are two toned, and for them that's OK, but perfer all silver.
-
When it comes to the Farmindale you cannot be too picky.
-
Only 47 around with no R.
-
That would be nice to own one of those.
I would bet they would be hard to come by and get top dollar!
-
I've got one! :)
-
Corey has one for sale. :D
-
I know. I wish I was in a position to purchase the set.
I bought the silver framed Farmie before I was 100 percent ready. I dont regret it. I am very happy with my purchase. I just need a little time to recoup.
I would have jumped at the chance to buy the 141 set. There is always next time though. Things happen for a reason. Hopefully Corey will keep this one of a kind set.
-
Hopefully, you may be able to get it! Would be a great deal! :)
-
I know.
We shall see.
-
Just work it in your schedule! ;)
