Title: R9S at the range is like an expensive date
Post by: raytor on May 20, 2011, 06:24:54 PM
I took this new R9S stealth to the range today and brought along some pricey Speer Gold dots and Winchester elite as well as lots of PMC FMJ.
I knew this Rohrbaugh was a expensive little gal but I didn't realize she had such an expensive appetite.
The PMC had frequent FTB and FTFeed but no FTFire.
The Speer and Winchester fed just fine.
The accuracy of this little gun was quite good, very similar to my Sig P238 and a bit better than my Kahr P380 all at 7 and 10 yards.  The recoil was nominal and really a lot less than the Ruger LCP (I dislike shooting that bugger).
I wanted to shoot about a 100 rounds to break it in and had to end up doing it with the expensvie stuff.
Looks like it's going to be lobster dinners when I take this girl out and now I have to change the spring soon too.
Still I love this new gun and am delighted with it. It's a keeper!

You can go to the diner or White Castle once in awhile by using Speer Lawman or WWB, both well functioning range ammo choices.

Interesting . . . I also have an LCP and find the recoil with the LCP to be a lot less than the R9.  Go figure!   ;D

I tried to qualify for concealed carry using my LCP and could not fire the requisite numbers of rounds with it - had to switch to the Hsc I brought along to finish.  Mine really snaps back.
The R9 does fit my hand better than the LCP so that may have something to do with it.

Good news, except the cost of ammo.  And it is just going to just keep going up.

R9s are like Ferraris and beautiful women. They like "the good stuff."   8)

Thanks for posting that range report.

Interesting for sure. I had read a lot of reviews here and all over the werb before buying my R9S. I was aprehensinve about the reports abot being finicky about ammo. I read somewhere that the R9S liked Speer GD 115 or 124 grain, but laso would perform using Blaser Alum case. Off to the first trip to the range. First 3 Mags of Blaser Alum 124 Grain cheap stuff with no problems at all. Next I tried some 124 Grain Speer GD's with no errors of any kind. Well I thought I would try the Federal Hydra Shok 124 Grain I use in my PPS, and also not issues at all to report. All fed and ejected well. I have to say the recoil is much anappier than my LCP. WAY Snappier. Cleaned the gun and it will now be my primary CCW replacing the LCP / Walther PPS rotation.  ;D ;D ;D

Molson, you chose a good replacement.
I sold my LCP and bought a Kahr P-380 and sold my PPS and got my first pup, and traded a Kahr PM9 for my second pup. ;D

Yeah, and those that won't spend the bucks for either.
