Saw a BNIB stealth at a gunshow...not a dealer but a private seller. The gun appeared to be never fired and in perfect condtion EXCEPT the slide seemed to be a little faded compared to the black frame. The Deer Park was stamped properly but on the right side of the frame where it says Rohrbaugh 9 it was barely visible. I believe Serial # was R1819. They were asking $900 which is obviously a great price but I was scared off by the issues I mentioned. Would like any feedback possible from u R9 pro's as to what might account for these issues....thx!
-
Just a guess but from my limited experience it sounds like the slide may have been refinished; it probably isn't holster wear.
-
Maybe it's an aftermarket Stealth with a poor finish job on the slide. It would take a call to Maria to find out if the Serial number is assigned to a Stealth or a two tone.

Yep! I agree. Call the source for information.
-
Monday may be too late but I think I would pass anyway.
-
Thx guys...gonna pass! Rather pay a few hundred more knowing what Im getting! It just wasnt right!
-
Good call, 'cause that's the serial number of my gun. :o
Edited to add for clarity: it's not for sale, it's not at a gun show, it's right here in my pocket.
-
Actually it may have been 1619 now that I think about it....my best guess is that the slide was refinished...if I hadnt already had one I probably would have bought it!
-
Much better to have a known known instead of a known unknown with a question mark behind it.
-
Agreed Tracker!

You did good, margator, in doing the passing. Good to go with your instinct. Excellent.

I've see a couple stealths in that serial range that were as you described and new at the time. That serial range was near the beginning of the stealth and some of those slides appeared somewhat "chalky" the best I can describe. I've also seen and owned a few that had shallow engraving.
-
Yes...chalky is a ggod description. Any idea what causes it and the faded stamping issue? If u owned a few did they function fine or was something just not right? Thx!
-
I have no idea what caused it. I would guess that the first ones were a different type finish than what most have been done since then, but that's only a guess.
The light stamping had no effect on the guns operation. They worked fine.

Did it look like this? This was one of the very first ones.

There you go, head back to the show tomorrow and jump on that deal if it hasn't already sold. :D
-
It could be a collectible like R176.

That doesn't look bad at all. :)
-
YES.....exactly!!
-
i can get it for $800.....or a new serial # for $1100. Gotta decide if it's worth it to save 3 bills......???
-
Go for it. One suggesiton: take your bore light and check the barrel. This is not easy on an R9 but I won't buy a gun, new or used, without a look.
-
Absolutely....and yeah its not that ez with no slide stop!
-
Went back and got it today for $800! definitely brand new...feel pretty good about it and will take it apart and see what we got later!
-
Great buy, Congrats. :D
-
Congrats! Margator. ;D
-
Thx guys.....will report back after the exam!
-
Opened her up....brand new....cleaned her up and lubed her and will take her out for a date this week! All in all i feel goood!
-
Congrats! That's a steal stealth :)
-
if it fires....I did good :D
-
Woo hoo!
Nice pick, congratulations. -And very glad to hear it wasn't a counterfeit version of my pup. :)
-
Douglas....you wont believe my serial#.....1818.....gotcha by 1!
-
That's funny.
I don't know about the black R9 finish, but the black finishes on my CZ-75B Military and BHP MkIII get some dull discoloration if I spray them with gunscrubber. A little oil or grease restores the color and shine.
-
That is something huh?
Small world on the web. What state are you in? I'm in NY, not too far from the factory actually.
Best of luck with the pup. I hope you carry it in good health and may you never have to fire it in anger.
-
I am in Boca Raton Florida which is the southern most point of Long Island ;D (I told that to Rudy Giuliani when I met him but he didn't think it was funny!) Anyway....somehow that pup ended up down here....this is my second one.....it interested me cause it was a lil different and a really good price. Taking it out tomorrow...got my gold dots ready....cant wait!
-
Hope you have a good range session. Look forward to the report.
-
Will report back tomorrow!
-
Looking forward to the report, margator! :D
-
Just got back from the range....all went well! The pup's got a lil kick. Just a quick question for the resident experts....My first pup was like a 58xx serial # and the one I just bought was a 18xx. Did Rohrbaugh change any of the internal parts over the last say 5 yrs. Or so? Is there anything drastically different on the Stealth other than the grips which are a bit different......thx!
-
Glad all went well.
As far as changes in the last 5 years I would think there were some but Corey would probably be able to give you a positive yes or no.
-
Glad to hear it went well.
Just to add to the data pile, what do you prefer to feed your pup?
-
Speer gold dots and Winchester silver tips ONLY!
-
As far as changes made within that serial range,no frame changes that I know of.
There possibly may be the springs that are different, both recoil and mag springs..
Glad to hear that you found a a Pup of a different color.. 8)
-
Thx! something a bit different...seems to kick a lil more than my last one which is why I inquired about any possible changes/modifications that might contribute to that.
-
Doesn't seem likely it would kick more, you may want to change the recoil spring and see if that makes a difference.
-
One thing that was visually different on the upgrade when I sent back my cracked slide was a beefed up extractor. FWIW, I am much happier with the changes ,whatever they were, from a performance point of view. It has been flawless but many here have experienced the same good consistency since 2004 without any upgrades. It seems that there were some issues in the 500-800 S/N range that have been worked out since that time. This was also about the same time frame as the move to Deer Park, which may or not be related.
-
I'll have to shoot a lil more this weekend....put my VZ's on and Im ready to rock. It may just be that I had not shot a pup for awhile and I fired it after shooting my EMP which is pretty mild! Let u know and thx!
-
I think the long layoff would be the most likely answer. ;D
-
The layoff was only about a month but shooting after the EMP likely exaggerated the kick!
