Title: Help with Sear Trigger Bar Spring issue please!
Post by: margator on September 24, 2011, 10:18:21 AM
I'll cut to the chase...The sear trigger spring is inserted into a lil hole on the sear trigger bar and the other side has 2 lil loops that wrap around 2 small nubs. I cannot get the side that hooks over the nubs to stay down long enough to put grip back on. Damn thing just keeps on popping out. Can't really see that it's bent but the bottom nub does look a lil shorter than the top. I know I can just order a new spring and try it but before I do was wondering if anyone else had this issue and was there a cure? Thx!!

That has been a common problem. I just slightly opened the loop very gently with a flat headed screwdriver and it stayed on after that. It can be maddening. Generally, I avoid this issue by not removing the grips, if possible.

I did the same as tracker, a gentle tweak and I have not had the problem again. :D

I follow what tracker generally does.  I don't remove the grips.  Good point, tracker, on opening the loop.

I have never had a problem after tweaking the spring.
I have had on the factory G-10s, factory CFs, VZs, Blue CFs and now Red CFs from Paul and the spring is now as it should have been when I got it. ;D

Well Love them Blues has been replaced by "Love Them Reds."
I have been waiting for the red CF for quite a while and it finally came in and and the grips were made.
I have the first set of matching Red grip R9 & LWS380.

I've been occupied with searching for that elusive "controlling precedent" on a client's case and just noticed this thread.

Tracker nailed it on the solution to that little problem which occasionally arises. The tolerances of the R9 are minimal, including the fitting tolerance of the trigger bar spring with its post. I first used the technique Tracker describes some years ago, and I now remove the grips of my R9 every time I clean it -- either to change out the grips (being a confessed "grip junkie," I have seven sets at last count), or just to see if any "dreck" has gotten in there since the last cleaning. Occasionally, and surprisingly, "dreck" is found.

My very first thought was to refer to Richard due to his fondness for grips and fine discipline for regular scheduled maintenance.
But I did not want him to feel like I was calling him out, or putting him on the spot.  :D

Thanks Richard, glad to hear your thoughts as well.

This discussion prompted me to disassemble, clean, and oil the pup today. I would have brushed him and clipped his toenails if possible. Even though I haven't shot it in awhile there was a need for cleaning and for some unknown reason a recoil spring change was necessary. Fresh lubrication was needed also which demonstrates the requirement for periodic maintenance as Richard has recommended in the past.

Like Richard said, once you tweak the spring it seems to cure the problem and grip removal is a non issue. :D
A regular removal to clean under the grips should be done as pocket lint and dust "dreck" find there way under them.

This thread somehow takes me back in time.
