Just what I need another #$%@*%$ holster. I'll take it if still available.

Jack:
Go for it and save me from myself. Were it not for the Milt Sparks R9 elephant hide holster in my pocket . . . .
-
I have a Milt Sparks shark skin pocket holster and mag holder.
-
Jack it's yours, I replied to your email with payment info.
-
Congrats Jack! You've done good! ;D

What a coincidence. My beaver happens to be missing a tail, anyone seen one around. Holster hanging off probably wouldn’t look so swift though. Bonus points to anyone who can name the item on the right side, leaning into the corner.

Had to have a genuine beaver for The Toadville Tavern....beautiful tanned Alaska beaver.
nope, not a land mine tester....I would almost say you are in the ballpark though, but not quite.... :)
-
Toad you need to shave the beaver to use it for a holster. :D
-
Toad,
That looks similar to the working end of a 2.75" HVAR or possibly a Zuni Rocket but it doesn't look like U.S. inventory.
-
Tracker,
You got it! It's a 5" Zuni training round. The warhead and fuze are both removable. These were used for weapons load crews to practice loading the pods. Good eye!

Thanks, Toad; that was fun. The Zuni has been around a long time and is now also laser guided and packs 40# of unleashed hell to the unfortunate target. On May 1, 1967 LCDR T.R. Swartz of VA-76 flying an A-4C fired a salvo of unguided Zunis at a MIG-17 and one went up his tailpipe, the only air-to-air kill with a Zuni in the Vietnam war. Here is a photo of a typical A-4 that was flown by Ted Swartz.
Sorry for the thread drift from beavers to bangers.

The A-4 is a beautiful aircraft. If you are ever in the Panama City, FL area, I can take you for a tour of the Weapons Test and Evaluation Unit. There you will see F-4 aircraft still flying. There are a number of them painted and restored to pristine condition and are used to support air shows around the country. These war horses are awesome.

Tracker is too modest to note it, but his extraordinary service to this country has involved more hours of up-close-and-personal experience with Zunis and A-4s than he may care to recall.
The A-4, in my view, is one of the best looking warbirds ever designed, right up there with the Spitfire and the P-51 Mustang. It was sometimes called "Scooter", "Tink," or "Heinemann's Hot Rod," after its designer, Ed Heinemann at Douglas Aircraft Co. Subject to correction, I believe it remains the smallest attack aircraft ever adopted by the Navy for carrier service -- small, beautiful, sleek, and deadly.
It occurs to me that those last four words might also be used to describe the R9.
-
Thanks, Richard, for the very perceptive analogy of the scooter and the pup. Dynamite comes in both of these small packages.
-
There is a reason the Blue Angels chose this bird.....Beats the heck out of the A7 or A8, both respectable aircraft in their own right....I'm still impressed that the Zuni was recognized....this is a testimate to the service of our Brother Tracker to this great nation...one who has not been there and done that would not recognize the Zuni....much thanks to all on this forum who have served and to those who support them...there is a reason I've found a home here and I thank you all.....

Welcome home, Brother Toad.
