Title: Holding a pair
Post by: Retops on February 14, 2012, 11:45:38 AM
A few days ago a police buddy asked me if he could try out the R9.  We headed out to the range on the spur of the moment and shot up my magazines of Gold Dots and a few more of cheap Winchester.  Everything worked great, accuracy was better that you should expect from a pocket gun, and my friend handed the R9 back to me saying he was going to buy one immediately as an off duty and back-up pistol.

His purchase got me to thinking about the old axiom that "one is none; two is one".  So I picked up a new R9 Stealth yesterday to go with my R9 stainless.  I have been carrying and  using my R9 daily since last year and find it just fits my needs perfectly.  A constant gun shop visitor, I am regularly looking at the new stuff but continue to think nothing is as good as my R9.  Haven't taken the new one out yet, but I am pleased to have it.

I presume that owning two of these now qualifies me for full membership in the club.  I suspect quite a few of you all are already there.

I also have two......if Rohrbaugh advertized like S&W(I know they can't) there would be thousands more of them in peoples pockets.... :D

Retops.  Congrats on the second R9.  As Ryan noted, addiction to multiple R9's can strike rather quickly; a third one or even more, may be in your future; why........................?  I haven't a clue!    :)  Except that it is a fantastic little jewel, so to speak!    :)

Congrats on the new one--- they are addictive!!  I have 3 R9s now and even had a 4th Rohrbaugh for a while--- an R380--- nice pistol but couldnt tell much difference in the recoil between it and the R9's so I sold it.
Keeping the 3 R9s though!

I had wondered if the 380 might be an option, but I'll probably stick with the 9. I've never even seen a 380 Rohrbaugh.

They don't seem to be on the front burner; it would be interesting to see some sales figures. That is probably a well guarded secret, also.

The R380 is a nice gun (looks and functions just like the R9) but i like the stronger 9mm round.  I think one of the reasons a .380 version is being made is the overseas market--- some countries prohibit private citizens from owning "military" calibers like 9mm but allow .380s.

I lived in Argentina where "military rounds" of 9mn and above were illegal for common citizens. PPKs and Sig P232s were the guns to have.   I am sure they would go crazy to get an R380.

I'm leaning more and more toward carrying 2 firearms (when we get it in Illinois).

I read one story where a guy was carrying his CW in a IWB holster in the small of his back and the BGs made everyone face away so he couldn't draw it, another story where a guy had his CW in his front pocket but BG was facing them with a drawn weapon.  In the one case the BGs started herding people to the back of the restaraunt and the guy was able to twist his body around and position it so that the BGs were not able to see him draw.  Once he had it out, he turned and fired.  Ended in one BG dead and another in critical condition (but lived).  I've actually read a few of these stories and its convinced me that I want a pistol in the front and one in the back.  I don't want to carry three pounds of hardware so a pair of Rohrbaugh R9s make perfect sense.

Know one has the time, money or energy to prepare for every possible confrontation........Have a few plans....practice them......remember in a combat situation the plan usually doesn't survive long....... :D

Well a lot of people imagine how a confrontation is going to go, and then reality completely trashes the plans they made based on their imaginary scenarios.

In the accounts that I read, I'm sure the people thought that they'd have ample opportunity to draw from their pocket or IWB or whatever, but they had a gun on their hip when they needed one in a back pocket, or had a gun around back when they needed one in their front pocket.

I can't prepare for every contingency or else I'd be walking around in body armor, but I do think two guns gives me so many more options in any situation.

Once my Dozer debacle is over, I'm going to be looking for a brother for my R9 Stealth.  I think the stainless model will do just fine.  Will be the yin to it's yang.... so to speak.  Then I'll have to call Doug at Bear Creek and have him make me some right IWB and front pocket holsters, so I can dual carry.

Reminds me of a joke I once heard, most of you have probably heard this one:

A NC State Highway Patrol Trooper pulled over a little old lady from North Carolina for a faulty taillight. When the officer approached the driver, she handed the officer her drivers license, insurance card and Concealed Carry License. The officer took all the documents, looked them over and said. "Mrs. Smith, I see you have a CCL. Do you have any weapons with you?" The little old lady replied, "Yes sir, I have a .357 handgun in a hip holster, a .45 in the glove box and a .22 derringer in my boot."*The officer looked at her and asked, "Anything else?" "Yes sir, I have a Mossberg 500 12-gauge and an AR-15 in the trunk." The officer asked if she was driving to or from a shooting range and the little old lady said she wasn't, so the officer bent over and looked into the her face and said, "Mrs. Smith, you're carrying quite a few guns. May I ask what you are afraid of?" The little old lady locked eyes with the officer and calmly answered, "Not a damn thing!"

I'm thinking Mike was speaking of the Rohrbaugh .380.
