Margator:

As you may have read on the Rohrbaugh Firearms website, "The R9 Stealth slides are coated with black nitride, which reduces friction; increases wear resistance and has anti-galling properties."

http://www.rohrbaughfirearms.com/products

This link has additional information on black nitride that may be of interest:

Well, there are the factory customs.  Some are no longer made, but can be found on Gunbroker.

The Elite: very limited run, the slides flats polished to a high luster and the inside of the grooves dark. The other enhancements, others will have to point out.  It is a very striking looking gun.

Special Forces:  another very limited run, sent to Wilson combat to be finished in their Armor Tuff finish and certain parts "tuned" by Wilson or factory?   There is one on GB now for 5k, one member tried to sell one here.  His price bottom out to $2500? I believe, I don't know if he had any takers.

Robar - factory tuned parts and gun sent to Robar for NP3 self lubricating hard finish.  A gun well worth the money.  Limited Run. Used ones go for around 2k.

Current Customs-

Factory - Tribute- cosmetically enhanced to resemble early model Farmie. cost?

???????--Desert tan duracoat finish and brown grips.  Name and cost?

New Larger sights on slide - availabilty yet? cost?

Covert:  Special Forces wannabe done by an Austin, TX Rohrbaugh dealer. $1700

Privite Gunsmithing - you're on you own.  Bob Coogan's name comes up the most on this site.  His work has included porting, checkering, stippling, sight enhancement.
Maybe owners of Bob's work will show pics and speak of costs.

Good Luck

You can go dig through the "Gunsmithing- Modifications" topic- threads for some examples of custom work.

I think the custom he is referring to is:

They seem to be calling this model the "custom" which I think is a very confusing name. IMHO it is ugly and I would not pay the $400-$500 extra people are asking for them. If i were choosing from the current line of R9s it would be a Tribute edition without thinking twice. Just my opinion. Enjoy the hunt and report back with what you decide to get.

I forgot to answer your question about what is done to a custom above and beyond a stealth to justify the price. It looks like all the little bits get coated, trigger, mag, mag release, chamber loaded indicator, barrel etc. You also get checkered VZ grips.

I think they are calling this the "Mission" model:

http://www.rohrbaughfirearms.com/news

"The NEW Mission Model R9 is treated with a Tan Cerakote® which provides an excellent corrosion protection, outstanding abrasion resistance, extreme hardness, & unmatched durability. Last but not least, our NEW Custom style R9 is finished with a Black Nitride™ that will increase wear-resistance, fatigue strength, corrosion resistance, lubricity and cosmetic appeal. Our custom model comes in all black or an Olive Green slide with black components."

I don't know what MSRP is, I am sure a call to the factory or Tom W may know. I did see someone ASKING $2k for one on GB though. No idea if it sold.

It was initially named "The Coyote" until someone wisely decided otherwise.

My thoughts are with you Blue.

If THAT is their idea of "Custom', they should get a new marketing manager real quick!

It does look more Coyote though ---- Coyote Ugly!

There is no doubt in my mind that the old metaphor of "coyote ugly" was the reason for the change. I could be wrong.

Maybe someone has some sense afterall. :)

But then, why still put it out there?

Maybe it is commissioned by that CO gunshop?

In defense of "coyotes," I would respectfully submit that they are somewhat easy on the eyes.   ;)

Since the coyote is a Canidae and a member of a widespread family that includes foxes, I will give you that one, my friend.

I like "Desert Fox" more than "Mission" or "Coyote", but nobody asked me.

I didn't edit the Wikipedia article to include the Special Forces (yet), and it doesn't have as nearly as detailed a breakdown as what BlueC2 lists, but it generally has the info on the different models:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rohrbaugh_R9

BlueC2's list:

If you wanted to have one of every different R9 variant this is what you would have to have:

Pre R SN, Early light grey anodized frame, Farmingdale, Sights marked R9s, Blue CF grips (Ex. #128)
Pre R SN, Silver frame, Farmingdale, No sights marked R9, Blue CF grips (I don’t know if this exists)
Pre R SN, Silver frame, Farmingdale, Sights marked R9s (Ex. #321, #223)
R SN, Grey anodized frame, Farmingdale, No sights marked R9, Blue CF grips
R SN, Grey anodized frame, Farmingdale, Sights marked R9s, Blue CF grips

R SN, Mission, Deer Park (Current Text), No sights marked R9, VZ G10 grips
R SN, Mission, Deer Park (Current Text), Sights marked R9, VZ G10 grips
There were also the engraved models which appear to have been available with either silver or grey frames and had three levels of engraving: standard, medium, and deluxe, presumably with and without sights. All the ones I have seen pictures of had Blue CF grips. I doubt they made all of the possible combinations but that would add another 12 different models.
There was also R5000 the NRA special edition gun.
There was also a “one of a kind” auctioned here on the forum with various anodized finishes.
You can also count the covert but should add the bit about a dealer facilitating the production with Rohrabugh’s blessing. This would count as 2 more models if they were available with and without sights – I don’t know)
That is 55 possible combinations but there are probably more…

At some point I'll go through and add a picture of each one - will need some help from everyone here for sure but I think it will be a good resource for the forum.

Will do. I think there are only 4 different 380s so it should be pretty easy:

K SN, Black anodized frame, SS Slide, Deer Park (Current Text), No sights marked 380, Black G10 grips
K SN, Black anodized frame, SS Slide, Deer Park (Current Text), Sights marked 380, Black G10 grips
K SN, Stealth, Deer Park (Current Text), No sights marked 380, Black G10 grips

That is a monumental project, but if you are willing to take it on it would indeed be a great resource for the Forum.
