The recluse holster with spare mag option indicates that it is for rear pocket carry. Is it not something that can be used for front pocket carry with jeans?

I think the operative phrase is,"designed for rear pocket carry." It looks to be too wide and heavy for front pocket carry to me. It may be suitable for large front pocket carry such as jeans, B.D.U., extra wide pockets, etc., if you could stand the weight of a loaded gun plus mag.

The extra magazine really ends up in the wrong pocket for any kind of "speed load".

You're right; that is another good reason to have it in the other pocket.
