Educate me a little , please. Why are these grips so expensive? Thanks, Norm

Supply and demand; there wasn't a large quantity made by Rohrbaugh and then they were discontinued.

Norm,

These are OEM (Rohrbaugh) carbon fiber grips that are no longer made. Karl and Eric actually hand fitted a lot of these grips themselves, it was a very time and cost intensive process. These grips fit perfectly to the frame of the R9 with no gaps or sharp edges like there are on the VZ grips. Over the years they came in 3 variants:

Blue carbon fiber - approximately 500 - 600 sets. These were on the very first Farmingdale guns and the early Deer Park guns.
Black carbon fiber (normal CF pattern) - These can be found on guns from about SN R500 through SN R? (less than R1000).
Black carbon fiber (diagonal CF pattern) - These can be found on Deer Park guns up to SN R1500 or thereabouts.

I don't know the exact production numbers and SN ranges for the various grips so these are just my estimated from looking at lots of R9s.

In summery, they are a really nice touch and I wish they were still standard but understand why it is not economically feasible.

Thank you  Mr. Blue, that is a good explanation.
I also had wondered why the brothers switched from the original grips to what comes on them now.
I put VZ's on mine, and they do have an edge.
I wonder if anyone ever custom fits the V's to their pup?
Title: rough quantity conservarive value estimate . WOW

so if there were 500 blue sets.. (600 likely) & they are worth at least $200 each.. ($300 likely)
that's an easy $100,000 floating around on Rohrbaugh firearms, unreal.

I really like both the black & blue carbon fiber originals, but will probably never own a set.

congrats to you both, seller & buyer

This is an interesting thought but assumes that there are 600 or so people willing to pay $300 per set when in actuality there are probably around 20, myself included. If you are patient they will pop up here and I have seen them as cheap as $200. Goodluck

I disagree with your logic; the market sets the price and if these sold for $320, that is the current market value. It doesn't make any difference if there are only 20 or so active buyers and that is also a guess. Why didn't you buy these?

I agree with how the market sets the prices for these. I was just saying that if you somehow managed to get all 600 sets I don't think you could count on getting $180k out of them - not enough buyers at the $300/grip price point for this pistol at least that is my thought.

Thanks, I can appreciate that and it is also true that there are those like me in the owners' group who will not sell so that effectively reduces the supply.

I'm one of those who would have paid $320 for that set -- if I didn't already have a pair of black CFs:

...well if I can get my hands on the second PUP I am looking to buy..
a sightless standard (black/stainless) R9 with original black carbon fiber grips,,
the CFs will be offered here immediately as trade for a blue set or for sale @ $320

I really prefer the eye-popper VZ grips for looks & they have been reviewed as better for shooting,
..however - a set of original blue CFs would be really nice on the Tribute I am getting this week !
