The key here is "Situational awareness" .... the winner is the guy that avoids the fight, or is prepared with his gun ready. Any WW2 fighter pilot knows to come up close and from behind.

The 'So called' hero gunfighters never gave their opponents any real opportunities - The Jelly Bryces, Wyatt Earps, etc were ambush specialists. Picture a cop walking into a biker bar, or mexican gang hangout, and saying 'Draw'. Surviving a gunfight is a matter of a gun that doesn't jam, and a good use of cover.
