Apparently, it is true:

Yes, the lead refinery being shipped into the U.S. from other Countries is a problem and I'm not diminishing that problem..... but more important what really bothers me is the fact that so much is done behind the backs of people. There is no public disclosure or if disclosure it takes the form of some back page article, no dissemination of information. It gets beyond tiring for a select few dictating life for
everyone and often those dictating just don't make common sense.
Just one person's 2 1/2 cents.

Just today I noticed some new stock of Remington 9mm 147 gr. being put on the shelves at Academy that was labeled, "lead free." It's already here, like it or not; of course, there are copper bullets like Barnes, among others, but at a higher price.

Per the linked article to the St Louis Post Dispatch, as well as this link to the site below it appears that the closure has been planned since at least 2010.

If I am not mistaken that Doe Run is an international corporation, owning locations outside the US. I also believe that they own some lead recycling facilities as well.
It is to my understanding that the most of the lead in our ammunition has been made from recycled (battery?) lead for quite some time. I don't feel as though this closure will play a big role in lead supply for ammunition purposes. Although with the all of the media attention and posts on forums, etc. it is sure to drive up the prices on ammunition as the uninformed panic buy.
Here is Sierra Bullet's response to the closure of the Doe Run Facility

"Should not affect us at all. That (Herculaneum MO plant) is a ore smelting plant only and we do not use lead that came directly from ore. None of our lead came from that facility and the facilities we do use are still up and going strong. Thanks"
