Title: Winter Storm Ion
Post by: Richard S on January 06, 2014, 08:26:33 PM
For all of our Forum members up north in the teeth of Winter Storm Ion, please take no chances with this monster.  It is a record breaker that can take lives with abandon.

Here at Critter Creek, protected by The Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee, toward the southern end of this arctic intrusion, we have had a little snow today and expect temperatures of 0 degrees at 4:00 AM tomorrow.  That is nothing compared to what you in the northern states hit by Ion must endure.  Here, by Friday we should have a daytime high of 54 degrees with a nighttime low of 34 degrees.  Go figure!

In any event, the picnic area of Critter Creek is closed for the time being.  Ice skating may be available tomorrow.

Here in Iowa we hit 0 degrees at 6:00 PM on Sunday.  Got down to -16 degrees by morning and got up to -8 today.  Down to -15 tonight again but we should hit 0 degrees by noon tomorrow.

The worst part is the wind.  Constant 20 to 25 MPH with gust to 35.  Wind chills have been -30 to -50 all the time.  The wind leaves us tomorrow and 35 with freezing rain for the weekend.

Oh well, its warm where I am.
