Post by: Newt on February 16, 2010, 11:38:50 AM
I am selling one of my 3 R9's which is S#246, no "R" prefix and does have the rare "R9s" model designation on the slide, blue carbon fiber grips and is in very fine cond. as it has had less than 30rds thru it and has been kept in a safe since early 05'. Sale includes 2 mags, box and manual, $1700 shipped overnite UPS to your FFL. Payment to be US postal MO. You all know what they look like but I will try to get my daughter to post pics. of this tonite as I am too computer illiterate but your satisfaction will be guaranteed. Only trades that will be considered are Valmet or Galil rifles. For questions call me at 410-726-3403. Black Hedley front pocket holster included.

Newt.  Sounds like an excellent R9.  Like that low serial No.

Thanks! It is a beautiful piece and I don't know how many early sighted R9s got out with the "R9s" on the slide before the ATF made Rohrbaugh stop using that model designation but I think it's pretty rare.

I was told by Karl that there were 48 early grey anodized pups made before the marking switch..

I wish you well on your sale my friend..

.... before the ATF made Rohrbaugh stop using that model designation....

Curious what the story behind that is?  Anybody care to fill me in?

Here is the story as quoted from Duane, our administrator, on May 5, 2005.

"Here is another thing to make you go "hmmmmm."

Rohrbaugh got federal approval to build and market an "R-9."  Whether the gun has sights or not was really neither here nor there to the feds.

However, when Rohrbaugh started shipping guns with slides engraved "R-9s," the feds suggested they stop since they were only licensed for an "R-9."  Thus was created a small number of very collectable guns that say "R-9s" on the slide.

Don't you feel safer now?"
