I recently purchased another R9 (R3618) and I'm not sure of the model. I bought it through Gander last week and it arrived today. I was only able to briefly look it over as I live in Illinois and we have a 3 day waiting period to bring home. It is an all black model and I originally thought it was a Covert model, but it does not annotated on the slide. So my question is, how would I be able to tell if it's a SF model or one that was sent in for refinishing by the previous owner? Obviously not a lot of info, so I'll post some pics when I'm able to pick it up. I usually don't purchase sight unseen but I couldn't pass it up for $750. From what I observed, it came in original case, lock, spent casings, 1 mag and warranty card. Again, I'll have more info Friday. I had my first one sent in for MP3 finish and had to have one in black also! Thanks

Wow congrats. Sounds like a very good buy!
I'll bet Tracker, MRC, bluec2, backup9 or DDgator could answer this one. It's over my knowledge level, but that's not saying too much.

The Covert was an aftermarket version done by Wilson Combat with their proprietary finish and a tune-up, but sanctioned by Rohrbaugh. It is labeled as such on the slide. Absent that, you most likely have a stealth model, but pic's and serial # range would help. It sounds like you made a great buy!

Covert23,
Please post pics when you have them. As far as I know without factory records being able to tie a specific serial number to a Special Forces Edition it would be difficult to distinguish an after market coating from the OEM one done for the Special Forces model. Pictures will help because if any external part is not coated it is likely an after market coating. I believe all OEM Special Forces guns were completely black including trigger, mag release, hammer, everything.
I look forward to seeing the pictures.

No matter who did any "extras" on the pup, it was/is a steal for the price you picked it up for!!
To me the pics look like it may be an aftermarket job. I haven't searched to see if the serial # pops up on the site (May or May not?)to see if it has been mentioned.
No matter what, enjoy it and have fun!!

Thanks Brenden, I searched the site and found a post from 2012 verifying that it is an SF. I have everything in the sellers pic minus the box and 1 mag.

My bad, his was 3613. Mine is 3618. He bought his at the shot show so it's possible. Either way, nice gun and it's a keeper.
