Title: R9 Stealth
Post by: cargaritaville on February 24, 2015, 08:11:15 AM
Is the only difference between a R9 Stealth and a R9 the fact that the slide is painted to match?

I didn't mean to insult your intelligence. I had Caspian micro-weld tungsten carbide onto the frame rails to retard wear and prevent galling on my new Caspian .45, which is in a different  league than the R9 and the R9 Stealth. The Stealth has black nitride coated on its rails. What I was wondering was if the R9 had anything coated on its rails as standard...maybe something just not mentioned because it was common and not different. I should have elaborated more.

No offense taken; I was just attempting to answer your question with available information. There is a lot more to the R9 and variations than meets the eye but much of that technology is left interred within the bones.

One salient point that has been mentioned frequently in the past is frame rail finish wear on the standard R9 after only a few rounds. We were assured that this was normal and should not be a concern. It doesn't appear that the Stealth frame was any different in that regard but I don't know for certain.

Intelligence?  Try genius.

Since Tracker will be too modest to mention this here, let me state for the record that he is a former United States Navy pilot who flew repeatedly in harm's way and never missed a trap in over 300 carrier landings with such extraordinary jet warbirds as the legendary A-4 Skyhawk -- one of these "Hot Rods":

From an old Army type, "HOOAH," Tracker!

If I may, the answer is yes to the question. That was the only difference between our "Standard" and "Stealth" models, the blackened slide.
The treatment was Black Nitride(TM). The slides were sent out to a company called H&M Metal Processing in Akron, Ohio for the process.
They were wonderful to work with on our project.
